    Youth Sports instructor 
    Davis Family YMCA
    Afternoons/ Nights/weekends,  2-8 hours per week 
    Includes free YMCA membership
    Reports to Youth/Teen & Sports Director
     
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Instructors teach  beginner/intermediate level  in most/all the following sports: flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball/t-ball, and youth fitness. To provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of youth while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play. 
     
    Essential Job Functions:
    1. Coach an assigned group of children emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun.
    2. Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and games 3. Be responsible for team equipment.
    4. Ensure equal playing time for all your players regardless of the score.
    5. Work to establish and improve team unity and spirit.
    6. Adhere to YMCA policies, objectives, and rules. Lead by example among team parents to support the responsibilities of the referee and league leadership.
    7. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
    8. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
    9. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
    10. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
    11. Performs other duties as assigned.
     
    Requirements
    • Minimum 18 years of age and
    • one year of coaching or played sports team for 3-4 years.
    • A desire to work with youth and teens.
    • Exude enthusiasm and positive spirit with a commitment to equal play.
    • Good organizational skills.
    • Recognized by others of sound character and strong moral values and personal ethics.
    • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date. Child Abuse Prevention training to be completed prior to first shift.
    • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
