Job Summary:

The Youth Sports Official - Flag Football position is an integral part of the City of Greeley's Recreation Division and is responsible for officiating events for all levels of competition and providing a fun and safe environment for youth of all ages.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Zero to One (0-1) year of officiating and/or playing experience.

  • Zero to One (0-1) year of customer service experience.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience playing or officiating youth sports is preferred.

  • Prior customer service experience preferred.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of sport-specific rules and youth modifications.

  • Ability to remain impartial, confident, and assertive while officiating games.

  • Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to work with children and manage groups in a fast-paced environment.

  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional demeanor on the field.

Travel:

  • Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

Essential Functions:

  • Officiate youth sports games (flag football) according to established league rules and age-level modifications.

  • Monitor player behavior and safety during games.

  • Start and stop play, make calls on fouls, violations, or rule infractions.

  • Communicate game decisions clearly to players, coaches, and spectators.

  • Promote positive sportsmanship, fair play, and learning for all participants.

  • Set up and inspect field or court equipment before games; report unsafe conditions.

  • Keep basic score or game records when needed.

  • Address disputes calmly and refer issues to a supervisor when appropriate.

  • Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.

  • Understand how the game is played and apply the proper principles and techniques used to officiate recreational sporting events.

  • Work effectively and productively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency situations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and in adverse weather or extremely hot conditions, where one may be exposed to loud noises, dust, fumes, and chemicals.

  • Workdays may extend from early morning to late evening, as well as weekends and holidays, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision to perform physical activities, read computer keyboards, reference books and other written documents.

  • Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Sit, stand, walk, bending and running for extended periods of time.

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and in adverse weather or extremely hot conditions, where one may be exposed to loud noises, dust, fumes, and chemicals.

  • Workdays may extend from early morning to late evening, as well as weekends and holidays, as needed.
