Youth Suicide Prevention Public Educator

Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre is a non-profit, charitable organization supporting children, youth, and adults impacted by sexual violence and providing education and prevention programming related to sexual violence. DCSC's service region involves communities such as Athabasca, Slave Lake, Wabasca, Smoky Lake, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, St Paul and other rural and/or remote locations including Metis and First Nations communities.

The Youth Suicide Prevention Public Educator delivers impactful education and awareness initiatives across DCSC’s service region through our Roots & Wings program. Working alongside the Program Lead, you will facilitate engaging, culturally safe, and age-appropriate workshops both virtually and in-person for schools, community groups, and adult care providers in rural, Indigenous, and remote communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver interactive workshops on youth suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention.
• Tailor sessions for diverse audiences, including Indigenous, Francophone, faith-based, and gender-specific youth groups.
• Represent DCSC at community events to build strong relationships across local schools and municipalities.
• Handle sensitive, real-time questions from participants with empathy and professional care.
• Update and refine curriculum based on current best practices, trauma-informed principles, and participant feedback.
• Manage delivery logistics, including session scheduling, tech setup, and travel preparation.
• Assist in evaluating program impact and supporting local fundraising and engagement efforts.

Qualifications

•       Undergraduate degree preferred (or equivalent experience) with a background in teaching, public speaking, or youth work.
•         Strong presentation skills with the confidence to speak to groups of all sizes, in-person and online.
•          Ability to engage meaningfully with rural, remote, Indigenous, and Francophone populations.
•          Valid Alberta Driver’s License, clean abstract, and reliable personal vehicle (frequent regional travel required).
•          Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Intervention Check.

This is ahybrid role where regular regional outreach is required to serve rural communities and local Métis Settlements and First Nations communities in the DCSC service area.
