Youth Summer Camp Climbing Instructor

$17/hr | Seasonal (May–August) | Salt Lake City, South Main

Lead. Mentor. Inspire the next generation of climbers.

If you love climbing, enjoy working with kids, and believe in the power of positive mentorship, this is your summer role. As a Youth Summer Camp Climbing Instructor at The Front, you'll help young climbers build confidence, teamwork, and skills-both on and off the wall.

About The Front

The Front Climbing Club creates innovative spaces that bring people together through movement, challenge, and community. We're more than a gym-we're a place where people grow, connect, and feel like they belong. Our youth programs are rooted in inclusion, encouragement, and lifelong participation in climbing and outdoor recreation.

About the Role

As a Youth Summer Camp Climbing Instructor, you'll work with campers ages 6–13 in a fun, structured, and safety‑focused environment. This is a seasonal, hourly role ($17/hr) running May through August, with morning and afternoon shifts available at our Salt Lake City, Ogden, and South Main locations. You'll play a key leadership role in creating memorable summer experiences for kids of all abilities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead safe, engaging rock climbing sessions for youth campers of varying ages and skill levels
  • Serve as a positive role model-learning campers' names, encouraging teamwork, and building confidence
  • Teach and demonstrate proper climbing techniques, belaying, and equipment use
  • Supervise groups on and off the wall, addressing unsafe behavior and maintaining a supportive environment
  • Design and run age‑appropriate activities that balance fun, learning, and structure
  • Monitor climbing areas to ensure safety while being mindful of members and shared spaces
  • Help maintain organized gear and activity areas
  • Collaborate closely with fellow instructors and Youth Programs leadership to support smooth camp operations

What You Bring

You might be a great fit if you:
  • Love working with kids and are excited to mentor youth ages 6–13
  • Have at least one year of climbing experience and can top‑rope belay
  • Bring high energy, patience, and a positive attitude to every interaction
  • Have 5 years of combined professional, educational, or trade experience, including at least 1 year working with or coaching youth
  • Are comfortable staying active, demonstrating climbing movements, and lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Take feedback well and enjoy growing as an instructor and teammate
  • Are willing to complete required certifications (CWI, CPR/First Aid, SafeSport-training or reimbursement provided)
  • Value customer care, clear communication, and creating welcoming experiences for everyone

Perks & Benefits

  • Free gym membership during employment
  • Discounts on food and merchandise
  • Paid training and certifications (CWI, SafeSport)
  • A fun, supportive team environment centered on growth and learning
