YouthBuild programs provide pathways to a living wage job for youth and young adults who are out of school and out of work. All over the world, YouthBuild programs unleash the positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives, breaking the cycle of poverty with a commitment to work, education, family, and community. Central Carolina Community Colleges YouthBuild program enrolls approximately 84 students (ages 16-24) in high school equivalency and non-credit courses in Construction and Culinary with a goal of continuing their pathways into college programs or career placement.
The Job Developer of YouthBuild Student Services will network in the public and private sectors to develop career-building opportunities for YouthBuild students. In addition, the YouthBuild Job Developer will advise a caseload of YouthBuild participants.
This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated grant end date of May 30, 2028 with the possibility of the grant being renewed by the U.S. Department of Labor.
This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required.
Some evening and weekend work may be required for departmental events and meetings.
Essential Duties
Develop and maintain partnerships in the public and private sectors that will provide career opportunities aligned with YouthBuild students' interests and goals
Assist Youthbuild staff members and students to identify and schedule career-related guest speakers, site visits, job shadow experiences, work experiences and informational interviews
Interview students relative to placements being sought
Meet with trainees at regular intervals to learn their career goals or immediate needs
Plan and organize job preparation workshops on skills including interviewing, resume preparation, and searching for jobs
Work with the director to market the program to potential employers through presentations and other communication strategies
Ensure trainees are prepared before going to job interviews and conduct follow-up assessments
Connect trainees with viable job opportunities
Work closely with employers to maximize student employment retention and success
Advise a caseload of 30-35 students per year using an intrusive advising model guided by an appreciative advising approach. Create and monitor Individualized Service Strategy Plans for each YouthBuild participant in conjunction with YouthBuild Director and Assistant Director.
Contribute to YouthBuild program refinements in ways that meet employers needs and expectations
Collect and maintain accurate participant placement data in Department of Labor database
Transport students to and from job interviews, job shadows, vocational classes, etc., using YouthBuild van
Assist YouthBuild Student Success Advocate in organizing educational trips
Serve on college committees as assigned
Complete the annual five-hour staff development
Encourage and support college activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Required educational background:
Bachelor's degree
One year of experience in job development and placement
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people
One year of experience in planning and conducting training sessions or workshops in a professional setting
Required kind and number years of work experience:
One year of experience in job development and placement
One year of experience in planning and conducting training sessions or workshops in a professional setting
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people
Demonstrated ability to help unemployed/underemployed job seekers find employment
Demonstrated ability to collect and manage data
Preferred Requirements
Master's degree in counseling, career development, social sciences, business, or related field
More than one year of experience in job development and placement
Two years or more of experience in higher education
