Summary of Position

Have you ever wanted to drive a Zamboni? Passionate for ice sports? Were looking for a Zamboni Driver to keep our ice surfaces in top condition. If you take pride in precision and want to play a vital role in maintaining an ice arena, we want you on our team! Under the general guidance and direction of the Ice Center Management, the Ice Maintenance Technician (IMT) is responsible for operating the resurfacing equipment to maintain a quality sheet of ice for customers. Cleaning and upkeep of indoor and outdoor facilities and surrounding areas. . IMTs are also required to be proficient at skate sharpening and may be asked to back up Concession stand and Pro-Shop as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resurfaces ice as scheduled.
  • Monitors use of ice center facilities.
  • Collects ice center revenue as required.
  • Maintains ice center upkeep including cleaning lobby, floors and windows, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, locker rooms, bleachers, and players' benches.
  • Assists Recreation Workers, as assigned.
  • Monitors ice temperature on the compressor system regularly.
  • Ensures ice center walkways and exterior are clear for users.
  • Assists customers as needed.
  • Provides effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
  • Follows oral and written instructions such as supervisor's work orders and equipment operation manuals.
  • Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and outside agencies and the general public.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
  • Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.

Qualifications and Other Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to the following:

  • Eighteen years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must be responsible and able to work effectively and courteously with the public.
  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications, or must obtain within 45 days.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently move, turn, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Examples of lifting and carrying requirements include but not limited to standard ice hockey nets and facility supplies and equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to operate assigned equipment.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Duties performed will be primarily within the Ice Center location. Noise level in the arena can be loud. This position will work outside from time to time and be exposed to inclement weather conditions, including cold, wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes. This position works closely with others.

Are you eligible for veterans preference points? The City of Coon Rapids operates under a point preference system, which awards points to qualified veterans to supplement their application.
