    The duties include but are not limited to:

    • Performs custodial duties in and for assigned MCPSS schools and facilities. Manages custodial supply purchases and equipment maintenance. Provides leadership, oversight and training to custodians in assigned zones.
    • Ensures custodial work in assigned zone is completed safely and on time. Ensures that facilities are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Oversees the work of environmental employees in schools enrolled in the Environmental Services Program.
    • Ensures the custodial staff in assigned zone is trained on approved procedures and performing to established standards.
    • Maintains inventory of custodial equipment at facilities within zone. Monitors and approves custodial supply purchases and tracks expenditures against budget.
    • Uses work order system to enter and update information to fulfill, complete or escalate equipment repairs as needed in a timely manner.
    • Conducts new employee and employee refresher training sessions on safe techniques and procedures, proper equipment use and approved cleaning methods. Ensures employee participation in training opportunities.
    • Provides additional custodial support as needed due to absences, emergencies or special events.
    • Maintains accurate and timely records of time, labor, and materials.
    • Inspects buildings, rooms, and facilities for cleanliness and proper maintenance.
    • Evaluates the program and workers to determine their ability to perform their duties as outlined and reports the results to the local school administration and Custodial Program Coordinator.
    • Recommends changes to achieve maximum cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities.
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Supervisors, Foremen, and other employees, i.e. principal and other school staff.
    • Completes work assignments without close supervision.
    • Completes all projects as to neatness conformance with standards of related trade.
    • May be assigned other duties as required.
    • This position may also be required to work after hours and weekends when necessary.
    • This position may also be required to perform duties on shift work-schedules.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must be a high school or trade school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.

    Must have five (5) years of experience in environmental services, or an equivalent combination of trade school training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform work.

    Must have five (5) years of experience in field work.

    Must have a working knowledge of chemical dispensing units, MSDS systems, and auto scrubbers.

    Must have thorough knowledge of cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.

    Must have knowledge of school plant rooms, facilities, and other buildings.

    Must have knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and tools used in the trade.

    Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.

    Must have a working knowledge of cleaning chemicals, including material safety data sheets, product usage charts, chemical dispensing units, cleaning materials, compounds, and solvents.

    Must have the ability to identify various cleaning materials and supplies needed to perform the duties issued.

    Must have a good working knowledge of high solids floor finishes, refinishing procedures and planned maintenance programs, and universal precaution procedures.

    Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, oversee custodial crews, and adhere to cleaning schedules.

    Must be able to operate and troubleshoot Kent battery operated floor equipment, or other like equipment, and be able to perform/instruct minor maintenance repairs.

    MUST HAVE A VALID ALABAMA DRIVER'S LICENSE. MAY BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE. MUST BE INSURABLE THROUGH MCPSS VEHICLE INSURANCE PROVIDER.

    Salary Range: From/To Beginning pay - $$47,181.00

    Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
