plans, coordinates, and evaluates departmental programs; trains sworn personnel on crime analysis and criminal apprehension; provides training on the use of tracking systems; and supervises a small team of crime analyst staff.  This is a non-sworn classification that is located in the Sheriff’s Office and reports to a Lieutenant or Captain.</div><div><br/><strong>MMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</strong><br/>Either I<br/><br/><strong><em>Experience:</em></strong><br/>The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in the classification of Crime Analyst within the Alameda County classified service.</div><div><br/><strong>OR</strong> II<br/><br/><strong><em>Education:<br/></em></strong>Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, criminal justice, forensic science, quantitative analysis, or a closely related field to the work.<strong><em><br/><br/>And,<br/><br/>Experience:<br/></em></strong>The equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience involving crime data collection, statistical research, and analysis, and working with criminal intelligence automated systems design and implementation in a criminal justice, law enforcement, or military intelligence-related setting, one (1) year of which must be in a lead or senior capacity.</div><div><br/><strong><em>Substitution:</em></strong></div><div>Additional experience as outlined in Pattern II above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.<br/><br/><strong><em>License/Certificate:</em></strong></div><ul><li>Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.</li><li>A Department of Justice Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate from an accredited college or university is desirable.</li></ul><div><br/><strong><em>Special Requirements:</em></strong></div><ul><li>Must pass a thorough background investigation.</li><li>Employees must be willing to be on call.</li><li>Employees may be required to work evening, night and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays during emergency or critical incident situations, and may be called upon with short notice.</li></ul><div><strong>NOTE:</strong> The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.</div><div><br/><strong>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:<br/>The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:<br/><br/></strong><strong><em>Knowledge of:</em></strong></div><ul><li>Microsoft Office Suite, such as Excel, PowerPoint, or similar programs.</li><li>Methods and techniques used in researching, compiling, sorting, evaluating and analyzing statistical, theoretical, and factual criminal and offender information.</li><li>Computer operations including proficiency in Windows, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and other geographic information systems, word processing, spreadsheet, statistical analysis, and database applications.</li><li>Basic principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and development.</li><li>Distinction between crime patterns, series, and trends.</li><li>California Penal Code and California Vehicle Code.</li><li>Business English and statistical mathematics.</li></ul><div><br/><strong><em>Ability to:</em></strong></div><ul><li>Understand relevant legal and ethical considerations in intelligence and crime analysis.</li><li>Multi-task and operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.</li><li>Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment and effectively interface with various stakeholders, ranging from patrol detectives to command staff.</li><li>Compose written reports demonstrating criminal trends and patterns that have developed.</li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing that includes making oral presentations.</li><li>Analyze a variety of criminal information received from various sources and formulate theories regarding criminal trends, patterns, and perpetrators.</li><li>Collect and evaluate criminal intelligence information to develop criteria to measure the reliability of such information.</li><li>Read and interpret maps and other geographic information systems.</li></ul><div><br/>The County offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package that affords wide-ranging health care options to meet the different needs of a diverse workforce and their families.
