JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform formulation and characterization testing using mills, mixers, homogenizers, ovens, pH meters, microscopes, particle size analyzers, rheometers, and related lab equipment
* Prepare batches and maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and logs (materials, weights, batch numbers, dates, etc.)
* Enter formulations, recipes, and test results into the LIMS system
* Analyze and interpret performance, stability, and characterization data
* Progress toward independent project work, including proposing formulations, designing experiments, and generating technical reports
* Utilize Microsoft Office applications and learn instrument-specific software as required
* Clearly communicate results, observations, and recommendations to supervisor and team members
* Collaborate within the Global Innovation team and support site safety initiatives
* Report directly to the Formulations Specialist

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor"s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
* 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience (industry, internship, or academic research)
* Hands-on experience working with chemicals and analytical instrumentation
* Familiarity with biological agents or reagents is a plus
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn new digital tools and software systems
* Working knowledge of chemical hygiene, biosafety practices, and SDS usage
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
* Detail-oriented with a track record of producing accurate work in a fast-paced lab setting

To learn more, visit: <a href="https://chemicalinsights.ul.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">chemicalinsights.org/</a>   What you’ll learn and achieve: As the Principal Exposure Data Scientist, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you: <ul><li>Design and implement cutting-edge data science methods for chemical exposure. </li><li>Work as part of a team to extract, curate, and harmonize structured and unstructured chemical exposure, product ingredient, biomonitoring, and environmental contamination data.  </li><li>Develop and implement quality assurance plans for data curation projects. </li><li>Design and implement artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions to automate data extraction, curation, and quality evaluation of structured and unstructured data. </li><li>Develop and implement data mapping and extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) pipelines for efficient exchange of data between established chemical safety and exposure data systems (e.g., IUCLID, MMDB, CPDat). </li><li>Develop statistical and machine learning models to predict chemical functional use and exposure pathways. </li><li>Collaborate with exposure scientists, toxicologists, analytical chemists, and toxicokinetic scientists to provide solutions for linking cross-disciplinary data, computational modeling, and interpreting experimental results. </li><li>Work closely with software and database engineers to provide high-quality chemical exposure data for on-line software applications and decision support tools. </li><li>Effectively communicate complex technical concepts, methodologies, and results to diverse audiences, including senior management, amplification partners, and data stakeholders. </li><li>Stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, and contribute to the development of new methodologies and best practices. </li><li>Present research findings at scientific conferences, stakeholder meetings, and technical forums. </li><li>Serve as co-author on peer-reviewed publications and technical reports. </li><li>Assist in writing research proposals and securing funding from internal and external sources. </li><li>Provide technical support and troubleshooting for data-related issues. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul>  What you’ll experience working at UL Research Institutes: We have pursued our mission of working for a safer, more secure, and sustainable world for nearly 130 years, embedding conscientious stewardship into everything we do. <ul><li>People: Our people make us special. Overview:
<ul><li> Design and carry out multistep organic syntheses, isolation, and purification of targeted</li><li>products.</li><li> Must possess a strong understanding of modern organic synthesis methodologies.</li><li> Must have a thorough understanding of modern analytical and spectroscopic techniques and</li><li>be able to interpret the corresponding data and spectra.</li><li>Ability to conduct literature searches for specific target compounds and be able to use the</li><li>literature to base a design of alternate routes to these compounds. Responsibilities:
Position is directed toward optimization of existing chemical routes and development of alternatechemistry toward key synthetic intermediates and APIs. Carries out multistep chemical synthesis andproduct isolation/purification operations in the laboratory, independently or as part of an integratedteam. Chemist utilizes modern analytical tools to determine identity and purity of products madeduring projects. Communication with clients in regular team meetings; prepares R&D reports at theconclusion of projects

Qualifications / Skills::
Organic Chemistry Knowledge: Beginning to demonstrate an understanding of advanced theories in OrganicChemistry/Process Development. Cross Discipline Knowledge: Higher level of understanding of the principles of cross-functional departments,including analytical chemistry and engineering. GMP/Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of industrial GMP and practical application toCambrex programs; Some ability to provide feedback to clients re: clinical strategy. Instrumentation: Advanced knowledge of HPLC, GC, MS, automated reactor platforms, In-situ reactionmonitoring, and ability to train and troubleshoot problems with equipment (and help others). Communication: Good written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate with clients withoutmanager supervision. Problem Solving: Strong demonstration of problem solving, ability to lead investigations. Time Management: Able to maintain timeline of key activities and use time efficiently; ability to handle projectswithout supervision, though requires regular check-in with manager. Leadership: Demonstrated record of mentorship and development of peers, partner lines and ability to supportinitiatives within the department. Technical Documentation and Review: Ability to author and review key technical documents with minimalRFT errors. Can write new SOP with manager assistance, keep current lab notebook while practicing GDP. External Influence: Ability to lead local project teams and steer clients to desired outcomes; ability to work withmanagement to develop key local laboratory-based initiatives. Industry Credibility and Rapport: Recognized scientific leader within the Cambrex organization, locally andpossibly beginning to extend to other sites. Operational Excellence: Actively participates in key operational excellence initiatives. Change Orientation: Active participation and support for implementation of Cambrex system levelchanges/initiatives.

Qualifications:

Hands on experience in pharmaceutical/chemical process development.
