As an Automotive Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced technicians and service professionals while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair Kia vehicles. This position is part of the Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP), a structured apprenticeship program created by Kia America to help Military Veterans transition into the automotive industry.

Preston Kia in Burton, Ohio is seeking Military Veterans with mechanical experience who are interested in beginning a rewarding career as an Automotive Service Technician.This position is part of the Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP), a structured apprenticeship program created by Kia America to help Military Veterans transition into the automotive industry. Through this program, participants gain hands-on dealership experience while completing a one-year competency-based apprenticeship that leads to Kia Service Technician certification.VTAP provides Veterans the opportunity to work full-time at a participating Kia dealership while receiving the training, tools, and support needed to develop into highly skilled automotive technicians. The program is GI Bill® approved, allowing eligible Veterans to receive a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) during their apprenticeship.As an Automotive Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced technicians and service professionals while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair Kia vehicles.<h3>Job Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Diagnose, maintain, and repair Kia vehicles, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical systems</li><li>Perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and mechanical repairs using Kia diagnostic procedures and equipment</li><li>Complete repair orders and warranty documentation according to Kia and dealership policies</li><li>Test drive vehicles and verify repair quality using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment</li><li>Communicate effectively with service advisors and shop foremen to ensure a positive customer experience</li><li>Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while following dealership safety procedures</li></ul>Requirements<ul><li>Honorable Discharge from U.S. Military Service</li><li>Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record</li><li>Prior experience in a mechanical or technical field</li><li>Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills</li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced dealership service environment</li><li>Willingness to complete background check and drug screening</li></ul><h3>Preferred Skills (Not Required)</h3><ul><li>Basic automotive maintenance or repair experience</li><li>Familiarity with diagnostic tools and hand tools</li><li>Experience working with engines, electrical systems, or mechanical equipment</li><li>ASE certifications or technical training (a plus)</li></ul>BenefitsKia VTAP Apprenticeship Highlights<ul><li>Full-time employment with a participating Kia Retailer</li><li>A program designed specifically for Military Veterans, facilitated by Veterans</li><li>Participation in a one-year, competency-based GI Bill® approved apprenticeship leading to Kia Service Technician certification</li><li>Eligible Veterans may receive a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) through the GI Bill® during the apprenticeship</li></ul>

Ensures that the work is in accordance with relevant codes. RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>Responsible for assisting site superintendent of all employees assigned to a specific work area of the job.</li><li>Successful completion of all required paperwork, such as but not limited to: Packing Slips, work order forms, two week look ahead, change requests, timecards, information needed for monthly draws and material requisition/return sheets.</li><li>Performs weekly safety training for all employees assigned to the job. (Tailgate/Toolbox Training)</li><li>Consistent communication with the site superintendent.</li><li>Gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site according to instructions.</li><li><ul><li>  Maintaining the truck inventories is necessary to maintain day to day activities.</li><li>  Assist in the unloading and shelving of materials on incoming trucks as needed. </li></ul></li><li>Transports tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work sites if necessary. </li><li>Assists in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.</li><li> Follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings & flooring. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provides access for future maintenance, & avoid unsightly hazardous, & unreliable installations, consistent with specifications & local electrical codes.</li><li>Inspects systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects and need for adjustments and repair. Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohm meter, volt meter and oscilloscope, and amp meter. </li><li>Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.</li><li>Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools. </li><li>Traces out short circuits in wiring, using knowledge of wiring and test meter.</li><li>Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.</li><li>Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads. </li><li>Performs minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches using hand tools.</li><li>Maintains tools and equipment, washes parts and keeps supplies and parts in order, general housekeeping of work site. </li><li>Responsible for adhering to and/or enforcing all safety policies and procedures of McClintock Electric, Inc.</li><li>If driving your personal vehicle for business or a company vehicle, absolutely NO cell phone use is permitted! </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE UPON QUALIFICATION IN POSITION: <ul><li>Must be a certified Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 6 years Commercial/Industrial experience. Previous foreman experience </li><li>High School diploma or equivalent.
