SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER\n \nElementary\n \nPosition Purpose\n\n Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of\n \nstudents with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by\n \nimplementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student\n \nprogress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal\n \nlearning environment.\n \nEssential Functions\n\n Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of\n \nidentifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to\n \novercome issues and maximize learning.\n\n Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual\n \nstudent's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize\n \nstakeholders with social work services.\n\n Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the\n \neducational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting\n \nresearch, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher\n \nlearning and the business community.\n\n
