While not directly involved in student supervision in the residence halls (dorms), each faculty and education staff member is expected to serve as an advisor to a small group of students and to contribute to the community through assistance with campus events, advisory groups, and other activities. Ability to work effectively with students from a variety of educational backgrounds and at a variety of educational readiness levels, implementing differentiated instructional strategies to support all students.

Interlochen Arts Academy seeks a full-time English as a Language Instructor to teach students in grades 9-12. The instructor will teach a full-time load - 5 sections of class or the equivalent, a mix of English Language classes and another academic discipline - and will be asked to serve as an advisor to a small group of students. Experience with Mandarin would be a plus given our student population, though we are open to a range of language backgrounds and experiences. As a faculty member at Interlochen, obligations reach beyond the classrooms and studios to assist with the growth of the institution and full operations that are part of boarding school life. This is a full-time, permanent teaching position starting in late August 2026.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:<ul><li>Teach 5 sections of classes, a mix of English Language classes as well as classes in an additional academic discipline</li><li>Serve as advisor to a small group of students who meet weekly for 30 minutes</li><li>Hold daily office hours (which are built into the daily schedule)</li><li>Maintain a course page online through Canvas, take attendance daily in each class, keep electronic gradebook up to date, and prepare timely and thorough grade reports</li><li>Help evaluate the English language proficiency of incoming students and make recommendations for student placement in courses that are appropriate for them</li><li>Teach Integrated Language Skills courses as well as ELL sections of content-specific areas</li><li>Teach in an additional academic discipline</li><li>Attend department, division, and full faculty meetings</li><li>Participate in all-school events at the beginning and end of the school year, as well as periodically throughout each semester</li><li>Support activities that are part of boarding school life</li><li>Seek the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness</li><li>Comply with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances</li><li>Respect the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the community</li><li>Prioritize duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul> Keyword: Instructor of English as a Language (Academy) Required Experience: <ul><li>BA in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, English, or related field required</li><li>MA in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or English preferred</li><li>Experience teaching English as an additional language, preferably in a secondary school setting</li><li> Familiarity with current research in the field of second language acquisition</li><li>Experience with Google Suite</li><li>Experience with Canvas or other Learning Management System</li><li>Commitment to creating an educational environment where all students can thrive</li><li>Ability to work effectively with students from a variety of educational backgrounds and at a variety of educational readiness levels, implementing differentiated instructional strategies to support all students</li><li>Openness to incorporating the arts as a mode of instruction and/or assessment</li><li>Strong interest in collaborating with colleagues, and openness to classroom observations by peers, supervisors, and visiting students/parents</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing</li><li>Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions</li><li>Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders</li><li>Demonstrate respect for cultural, ethnic, spiritual, and linguistic diversity and values including differences in personal goals, lifestyle choices and varying family backgrounds and histories</li></ul>Application Materials Required:<ul><li>Resume</li><li>Cover Letter</li></ul> From: Interlochen Center for the Arts
