The Heavy Equipment Operator will drive, maneuver, and control the heavy machinery used to construct roads, bridges, buildings, and other structures. The position will safely use machinery to move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites with minimal direct supervision. <figure><a href="https://www.mtagc.org/" rel="nofollow"></a><a href="https://shumakert-e.com/" rel="nofollow"><img src="https://i.postimg.cc/tJsCstw1/SHUMAKER-LOGO.jpg"/></a><img alt="MCA" src="https://i.postimg.cc/SsbTJxKN/mca-logo-2020.jpg"/></figure><h3>HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC</h3>Shumaker Trucking & Excavating Contractors, Inc Great Falls, MT 59404 <h4>SUMMARY: </h4>The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will provide maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of several types of mobile heavy equipment in locations in any of the following areas: earthwork, trucking, gravel crushing, excavation, grading, sewer & water utility lines, culverts and storm drain and heavy civil project throughout Montana. <h4>Essential Functions: </h4><ul><li>Maintain, repair and troubleshoot problems on all road construction equipment and trucks.  Includes rollers, loaders, water trucks, tractors/belly dump trailers, skid steers, scrapers, excavators, and dozers.  Also, responsible for maintaining and working on smaller equipment and tools, including pickups, water pumps, plate compactors, etc. </li><li>General mechanical, engine & transmission troubleshooting, hydraulic, electrical, cutting & welding, minor fabrication, and an overall understanding of road building equipment. </li><li>Stock and organize assigned tool van with parts to meet the needs of the equipment on the project assigned. </li><li>Find mechanical failures and future preventive maintenance needs. </li><li>Work with and follow directions from supervisors. </li><li>Complete required maintenance documentation as directed by shop supervisor. </li><li>Able to work both independently and with other mechanics/employees. </li><li>Provide professional/technical advice to operators concerning issues with equipment operations. </li><li>Respond to and address nonfunctional equipment working after hours, as necessary. </li><li>Complete regular inspections. </li><li>Tune and configure equipment for optimal utilization and efficiency. </li><li>Check messages on a regular basis and respond accordingly. </li><li>Seek out and participate in appropriate training and conferences. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by supervisor. </li></ul><h4>Competencies:  </h4><ul><li>Class A Commercial driver’s license with Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement (preferred). </li><li>Prior heavy equipment mechanical experience (preferred). </li><li>Must have own tools. </li><li>Strong work ethic. </li><li>Ability to use modern electronic and computer-based trouble-shooting techniques is highly desirable. </li><li>Be willing to work in a team environment and aid co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. </li><li>Must require minimal supervision. </li><li>Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. </li><li>Willing to travel and work away from home. </li><li>Maintain a cheerful outlook. </li><li>Maintain and promote a clean and safe work environment and culture. </li><li>Willing to work overtime including weekends. </li><li>Ability to do basic math. </li><li>Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards. </li><li>Must be 18 years of age. </li><li>High School Diploma or G.E.D.
