GRI is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team. As a Staff Engineer at GRI, you will gain experience working on a variety of interesting assignments under the mentorship of project/senior engineers. GRI promotes a collaborative work culture, supports training and career development, and encourages work-life integration, which results in a highly desirable work environment.General responsibilities include:<ul><li>Perform and manage field explorations.</li><li>Manage and coordinate work with drilling subcontractors.</li><li>Collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples & data; evaluate & interpret data. </li><li>Perform lab testing including Atterbergs, Consols, Direct Shear, Proctor, Triaxial, etc.</li><li>Perform engineering analyses.</li><li>Perform settlement analyses.</li><li>Conduct pile design. </li><li>Perform slope stability analysis & design.</li><li>Conduct pavement condition index surveys for roadways & airfields.</li><li>Perform back-calculation analysis & interpret FWD data.</li><li>Perform traffic loading analysis.</li><li>Write simple reports; draft more complex reports for senior engineer review such as site investigations, site assessments, and remediation activities.</li><li>Observe construction activities on site to ensure they meet design criteria.</li><li>Prepare concise and timely site visit reports.</li><li>Process GPR data.</li><li>Communicate on project sites with contractors / subcontractors.</li><li>Identify and understand unsuitable conditions in the field, apply knowledge to real-world situations on project sites to make recommendations.</li><li>Understand proper piles, anchor testing, fill placement, drilled shafts, and apply knowledge to real-world conditions on project sites to identify inappropriate or unsuitable conditions/ application, & make recommendations in real-time.</li><li>Generate geologic maps & cross-sections with assistance of Drafting staff and / or other Geologic or Engineering Staff.</li><li>Attend internal and external project meetings.</li><li>Actively engage in mentorship activities with senior GRI staff.</li><li>Attend professional society meetings.</li></ul>Required Skills / Abilities:<ul><li>Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering design and investigation, and the terms and methodology used in geotechnical engineering.</li><li>Ability to perform calculations and use tools to compute data Skilled in use and application of geotechnical numerical modeling software.</li><li>Experience with soil structure interaction. </li><li>Familiarity with bridge and waterfront design and construction.</li><li>Interpret and communicate site plans and specifications.</li><li>Communicate clearly with project managers; ability to manage time and meet deadlines.</li><li>Engage in client networking to level appropriate; participate in firm outreach activities. </li><li>Ability to work with a variety of other personnel in the office and in the field.</li></ul>Position Requirements:<ul><li>M.S. Geotechnical Engineer 2-4

RH2 Engineering is seeking an early-career Geotechnical Engineer to join RH2's collaborative consulting team. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to public infrastructure and utility projects throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho while developing technical and professional skills under the mentorship of experienced professionals.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, alongside licensed geotechnical engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, and engineering geologists. Senior staff provide mentoring, technical review, risk evaluation, and project collaboration to support your continued growth.

This position blends office-based analysis and reporting with field investigations and site visits. While primarily focused on geotechnical engineering, there are opportunities to expand into engineering geology, hydrogeology, and general engineering.

With your skills you will:

+ Review published reports, well logs, geologic maps, and related data to evaluate site conditions, constraints, construction methodologies, and design risks.

+ Develop geologic cross-sections and hydrogeologic/potentiometric surface interpretations using existing and field-collected data.

+ Identify recommended drilling locations and depths for production and dewatering wells.

+ Prepare technical specifications for shallow and deep foundations, production wells, and dewatering systems.

+ Participate in and document field investigations, including borings and test pits; classify soils and evaluate stratigraphy, strength, permeability, and suitability as construction materials.

+ Collect and manage soil samples for laboratory testing; analyze field and lab data to determine engineering properties.

+ Prepare technical memoranda and geotechnical reports summarizing findings, analyses, and recommendations.

+ Develop maps and figures using GIS and AutoCAD to support deliverables.

+ Travel periodically within Washington, Oregon, and Idaho for fieldwork (all travel time compensated).

What you'll bring:

+ Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.

+ Master's degree in geotechnical engineering, geology, or related field preferred.

+ FE/EIT certification required.

+ Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington, Oregon, and/or Idaho-or ability to obtain within 1-3 years.

+ 2-10 years of experience in civil or geotechnical engineering.

+ Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills (writing samples will be required).

+ Experience preparing clear, well-organized technical reports and data presentations.

+ Knowledge of Pacific Northwest glacial, fluvial, and bedrock geology.

+ Experience classifying soils using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).

+ Proficiency in analyzing geologic and geotechnical data.

+ Experience with GIS, CAD, spreadsheets, modeling, and/or remote sensing tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

+ Coordinate and oversee subconsultants and contractors with support from senior staff.

+ Minimal internal staff supervision responsibilities.

Technical Skills

Proficiency or working knowledge in:

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily office-based with periodic fieldwork. The successful candidate must be able to:

+ Sit or stand for extended periods and work at a computer.

+ Travel between RH2 offices and project sites (mileage reimbursed at IRS rate).

+ Position requires ability to bend, kneel, stoop and stand on various ground materials using hands and arms to reach, dig or pull materials to conduct applicable tests and assessments, including entering shallow test pits or shored excavations.

+ Perform fieldwork at construction sites for extended durations, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and lifting up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation counts:

RH2 has an excellent multi-component compensation package built to recognize and financially reward our employees' contributions throughout their career with the company. Individual base compensation will vary within the following range of $42.00-$55.00/hour based on skills, qualifications, and experience as they relate to the requirements for this position. RH2 values our employees' work/life balance and compensates for overtime at 1.5 times the base rate for hours exceeding 40 regular hours in a work week.
