Assess vital signs, reason for visit, signs/symptoms reported by patient/parent/guardian, patient history, social history, patient allergies with type/severity of reaction, current medications, laboratory/radiologic results, and patient's level of understanding and/or need for accommodation and need for support prior to patient being seen by the health care provider. Prepare patient for examination by providing clear, simple explanations, assist provider during patient exam with labeling specimens appropriately for processing, provide correct testing requisition slips with instructions to patient upon discharge, and inform patient of required follow-up care.
