We are seeking a candidate to supervise drivers at one of our locations.   The Operations Supervisor provides direction at a single location, leading staff to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting our Penske goals and objectives.   Position Summary:   Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations in a manner consistent with company services and cost objectives. Supervises most processes directly including people, systems, customer needs, equipment, etc.workforce and equipment scheduling. Responsible for performance management of direct reports. making corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to written warning level. Involved in the hiring process and customer meetings as necessary. In this role, Operations Supervisors will be bonus eligible based on their performance and location performance. To learn more visit https://penske.jobs/benefits/   Major Responsibilities:   People   <ul><li> </li><li>Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives</li><li>   </li><li>Establish and sustain that performance standards are communicated that are specific and measurable</li><li>   </li><li>Interview hourly associates and provide recommendations for hire</li><li>   </li><li>Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates</li><li>   </li><li>Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition</li><li>   </li></ul>   Operations   <ul><li> </li><li>Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control</li><li>   </li><li>Conduct team meetings</li><li>   </li><li>Evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations. Assist in new associate training</li><li>   </li><li>Provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates utilize time-off or are absent from the shift</li><li>   </li><li>Have a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems in order to ensure operational compliance and correct exception resolution</li><li>   </li><li>Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion</li><li>   </li></ul>   Finance   <ul><li> </li><li>Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.</li><li>   </li><li>Understand the relationship between decision-making and profitability</li><li>   </li><li>Closely manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and to meet or exceed productivity targets</li><li>   </li></ul>   Safety   <ul><li> </li><li>Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy</li><li>   </li><li>Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance</li><li>   </li><li>Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures</li><li>   </li><li>Conduct safety observations</li><li>   </li></ul>   Growth / Customer Experience   <ul><li> </li><li>Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily</li><li>   </li><li>Ensure the customer knows that we are committed to helping them meet their objectives</li><li>   </li><li>Determine areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement efforts</li><li>   </li></ul>   Fleet/Assets   <ul><li> </li><li>Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment</li><li>   </li><li>Work with hourly associates to ensure they understand safe and efficient operation of equipment</li><li>   </li><li>Work with vendors to ensure equipment is maintained</li><li>   </li><li>Work with Penske Truck Leasing to ensure schedule of preventative maintenance is complete</li><li>   </li><li>Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor</li><li>   </li></ul>   Job Qualifications:   <ul><li> </li><li>Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to connect, build rapport and maintain solid relationships with associates, Company leadership, internal and external customers. ¬</li><li>   </li><li>Must have ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills</li><li>   </li><li>Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required</li><li>   </li><li>Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently</li><li>   </li><li>Ability to drive process improvement and lead change</li><li>   </li><li>Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required</li><li>   </li><li>Must demonstrate ownership & responsibility to run the operation with a sense of urgency</li><li>   </li><li>High School Diploma or equivalent required</li><li>   </li><li>Bachelor’s Degree preferred</li><li>   </li><li>Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job</li><li>   </li><li>Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening required.</li><li>   </li></ul>   Physical Requirements:   <ul><li> </li><li>The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Drives bus and announces stops along routes. Announces cross streets and intersecting transit stops. Inspects passes; ascertains appropriate fares. Ensures that customers deposit only appropriate coins and bills into fare-box. Issues and receives transfer cards (collects invalid transfer cards) and receives and returns fare-cards. Contacts Control Center regarding all problems. Operates lift to board and discharge disabled passengers. Inspects vehicle for lost articles. Prepares daily trip sheets and bus for service. Removes refuse and prepares bus for pull-out. Tallies various categories of boarding passengers by manually operating a recording device. Enters tally numbers from recording device at beginning and end of run. Performs other duties as assigned EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration. Required to be at least 21 years of age. Required to have an acceptable driving record and a valid State of Illinois Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a valid State of Illinois CDL permit with the following three endorsements: KNOWLEDGE, PASSENGER and AIR BRAKES. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Required to be standing changing destination and bus numbers, signs, helping people board bus, to walk to relief points, checking bus and sitting while driving bus. Required to lift, to carry and to push of brake pedal and accelerator, windows and to pull door control latch. Required to climb into vehicle and adjustment of mirrors, to balance, to stoop to adjust driver’s seat, to kneel, to crouch and to crawl. Required to reach accepting and validating transfer cards and fare cards, adjusting mirror, to handle transfer and fare cards; steering wheel, to finger operating fare box, horn, punching transfers, to feel distributing and receiving transfer and fare cards, to talk announcing streets and answering passenger inquiries, to hear listening to traffic sounds, signal requesting stops, emergency vehicles, passenger questions and radio monitor. Required to see near and far watching stopped vehicles, checking passes/cards and general traffic conditions viewing of traffic signals and riding passes. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Possess customer service experience or skills to provide outstanding customer service to passengers. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the rules, regulations and procedures relative to the operation of surface vehicles. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of pertinent state and municipal traffic laws. Must possess the skills necessary to accurately read and interpret bus schedules. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the fare structure, transfer regulations and the rules and procedures governing Bus Operators. Required to possess a knowledge of arithmetic. Required to speak in a clear and accurate manner. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the preparation and usage of applicable transportation forms. WORKING CONDITIONS Required to work most of the time with activities performed inside of bus. Required to work under extreme cold when the temperature control is malfunctioning or undeSaver extreme heat when does not work in winters, air conditioning, wet and/or humid conditions when not working in summers, driving in rain/fog and noise and vibration for traffic noises, passengers street conditions, normal bus operation. Required to work with various mechanical malfunctions of vehicle breakdowns, electrical, burns, explosives, chemicals, heights and other exposed to possibility of injury related to traffic accidents.
