Responsibilities:
The ED Bridge to Practice Program for New Graduates: Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills (GHMC-C) ED Nurse Bridge to Practice Pilot Program is a comprehensive, 6-month orientation/training program that is designed to assist the new graduate registered nurse to transition into the Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills Adult Emergency Department. During this program, nurses learn the fundamental principles of emergency nursing through formalized classroom instruction and clinical experience with a preceptor. At the completion of the program, they become key members of the Emergency Department team. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for implementing the Nursing Process based on established Standards of Practice and ensuring all patient care policies and procedures are adhered to in accordance with Garnet Health Hospital policies, the Nurse Practice Act, and the New York State Licensure requirements.  The Registered Nurse will be able to exhibit critical thinking, effectively organize and triage/prioritize accordingly, and implement evidence based nursing. At Garnet Health, we are committed to supporting your career growth and professional potential. Qualifications:
Program Format: The program consists of evidence-based didactic, skills lab instruction and structured clinical experiences over 6 months. Nurses develop core competencies through lecture, discussion and learner-paced modules as well as a precepted clinical experience, in:<ul><li>Initiating and maintaining IV Therapy</li><li>Treating patients presenting with minor/non-emergent to acute/life threatening situations.</li><li>Recognition and treatment of dysrhythmias.</li><li>Recognition and treatment of hemodynamic instability and compromised respiratory status.</li><li>Management and stabilization of the trauma patient.</li><li>Administering medications specific to Emergency Department.</li><li>Clinical competency in use of equipment specific to the Emergency Department.</li><li>Regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety when transferring patient’s intra and inter facility (EMTALA).</li></ul> Orientation areas include Critical Care, Medical/ Surgical, OB  and the Emergency Department. RN Qualifications and Requirements for the ED Nurse Bridge to Practice:<ul><li style="margin-bottom:10pt">Internal candidates and external applicants must graduate from an approved nursing program with a AAS degree required, BSN preferred. </li><li style="margin-bottom:10pt">Must be able to meet the essential functions contained in the ED RN Job Description with or without a reasonable accommodation.</li><li style="margin-bottom:10pt">Internal RN applicants must meet the Internal Transfer Guidelines and be in good standing, meaning no active disciplines of written warning or greater within their employee file during the 6 months prior to application.</li><li style="margin-bottom:10pt">Completed HR Talent Assessment for all candidates. </li><li style="margin-bottom:10pt">GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred.</li></ul> **Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis for a TBD start date. ** POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education:  Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.                       Minimum Experience:  Six months’ Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency, or Progressive Care experience required. For the ED New Grad Residency program, new graduates with no experience will enter the 6-month Residency Program to meet the experience requirement.                                                                          Required Certification/Registration: <ul><li>Currently licensed and registered in NY State to practice as a registered professional nurse.                </li><li>On hire, a valid Basic Life Support course completion card, issued by an organization approved by the Hospital, must be presented. BLS renewal not required once ACLS is obtained.</li><li>Within three months of assignment, employee will attend a hospital-sponsored Crisis Training Program and will attend at least annually for the duration of employment.</li><li>Within three months of assignment, the following classes will be completed, with a valid course completion card issued by an organization approved by the hospital, must be presented and employee will maintain a valid card for the duration of employment<ul><li>Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)</li><li>Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)</li></ul></li><li>Prior to the end of the orientation period, a cardiac rhythm course is successfully completed</li><li>Within 6 months of assignment, completion of an ESI 5-level triage class with a refresher class taken not less than every two years</li><li>The following certification classes are preferred<ul><li>Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association</li><li>Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association</li></ul></li><li>The following Board Certifications are preferred<ul><li>CCRN issued by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses</li><li>CEN issued by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing</li></ul></li><li>Special Duties: Special duties positions are assignments that are completed by senior Emergency Nurses and require additional training and experience as noted:</li><li>Charge Nurse Experience<ul><li>Two years of Emergency Nursing experience preferred (in any Emergency Department) preferred</li><li>Six months of Emergency Nursing experience at Catskill Regional Medical Center</li></ul></li></ul> Physical Requirements:  Position will primarily be medium to light work requiring lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching are required. Position requires 20% sitting and 80% standing or walking.  Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken and written word is required.                                               Working Conditions:<ul style="margin-top:0in"><li>Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility.  No routine exposure to hazards. Position may have occasional exposure to blood, body substances, infectious materials, chemical hazards, vibration, radiation, slippery surfaces, or noise that may result from performance of duties.</li><li>Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs.</li></ul>Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
