The purpose of the Metal Inspector/Greeter/Laborer position is to greet each peddler as they come off the scale, assign correct commodity codes for the material being brought in, direct the peddler to the appropriate drop-off location(s) and work in the warehouse as needed for additional coverage. Our scrap operations source, buy, process, and sell four distinct groups of commodity metals for use in the manufacture of new products:We recycle scrap steel and iron, which is sold primarily to domestic mills and foundries.

<div>Job Title: Greeter/Laborer/Forklift Operator.</div><div>Reports To: Yard Manager.</div><div>Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt.</div><div>Location: 6225 Thompson Rd., Syracuse, Ny 13206.</div><div>Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Overtime: Saturdays 8:00am to 12:00pm, as needed or requested. Compensation: $18-19/hr. based on experience & skills. Purpose: The purpose of the Metal Inspector/Greeter/Laborer position is to greet each peddler as they come off the scale, assign correct commodity codes for the material being brought in, direct the peddler to the appropriate drop-off location(s) and work in the warehouse as needed for additional coverage. </div><div>Responsibilities:</div><ul><li>Provide quality customer service.</li><li>Greet and assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner.</li><li>Inspect scrap load in order to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes and assign deductions according to best practices.</li><li>Identify and record inspection data to include the weight, grade, content and quantity of scrap metal.</li><li>Ensure customers are dropping the correct material in the correct designated areas.</li><li>Direct peddler to drop-off location(s).</li><li>Communicate via 2-way radio with the Weigh Master and yard personnel.</li><li>Direct peddler through outbound scale and instruct on payout procedure.</li><li>Maintain a work area representative of a safe, organized, efficient and clean environment.</li><li>Safely operates forklift or skid steer to unload/load customer vehicles and/or trucks. Also utilize forklift to dump containers.
