HMMH is nationally recognized for its expertise in noise and vibration analysis. HMMH is seeking a Principal Consultant to join our Surface Transportation Group, based remotely in or in a hybrid capacity from one of our offices in Burlington, MA, Washington DC, Dallas, TX, Lake Oswego, OR, or Anaheim, CA. The ideal candidate would have client relationships with government and private sector clients in the Southeast U.S. This senior-level role will lead technical delivery, client engagement, and business development for HMMH’s transportation planning and environmental practice, particularly across the Southeast. The Principal Consultant will manage large, complex projects; mentor project managers and technical staff; and serve as a technical and strategic leader in transportation noise and vibration analysis. The position will also drive market growth with state DOTs (AR, GA, TX, LA, AL), major transit agencies (Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Houston), and energy and infrastructure clients.  Travel of approximately one week per month is expected for client and project activities.  Key Responsibilities <ul><li>Serve as a senior technical expert in noise and vibration analysis for highway, rail, and transit projects. </li><li>Oversee analyses using FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM) and FTA’s Noise and Vibration Assessment Guidance Manual. </li><li>Ensure the technical quality and accuracy of analyses, designs, and reports across multiple projects. </li><li>Manage large, multidisciplinary projects from initiation through completion, maintaining scope, budget, and schedule. </li><li>Mentor and coach project managers and staff on project execution and professional growth. </li><li>Supervise staff and subconsultants, providing strategic direction and quality oversight. </li><li>Lead business development and client relationship management efforts in the Southeastern U.S. and support other business development efforts across the country. </li><li>Develop proposals, cost estimates, and pursuit strategies for new and existing clients. </li><li>Represent HMMH in industry organizations such as ACEC, APTA, AREMA, NAEP, TRB, INCE and others, through participation, presentations, and publications. </li><li>Advance HMMH’s technical leadership through innovation, training, and research initiatives. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul>Minimum Qualifications <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or higher in acoustics, engineering, physics, mathematics, or environmental sciences. </li><li>12+ years of progressively responsible experience in transportation noise and vibration analysis or related environmental work. </li><li>Extensive experience developing new business with government and private sector clients. </li><li>Expertise with FHWA’s TNM and commercial noise modeling software (e.g., SoundPLAN). </li><li>Proven success managing large, complex, multidisciplinary projects. </li><li>Strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills. </li><li>Demonstrated business development and client relationship success. </li><li>Ability to lead and mentor project teams. </li><li>Willingness to travel up to 25%. </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications <ul><li>Advanced degree in a related field. </li><li>Experience supervising and developing multidisciplinary teams. </li><li>Knowledge of NEPA and related environmental regulatory programs. </li><li>Experience with ArcGIS, data management, and programming tools. </li><li>Proficiency with noise and vibration measurement instruments and program design. </li><li>Familiarity with air quality models (e.g., MOVES, AERMOD). </li><li>Active participation in ACEC, APTA, AREMA, NAEP, TRB, and INCE , or similar professional associations. </li></ul>Location:   Remote in Southeast U.S. or hybrid from one of our offices in Burlington, MA, Washington DC, Dallas, TX, Lake Oswego, OR, or Anaheim, CA.  HMMH offers competitive salaries, a comprehensive benefits package, and a positive work atmosphere.
