RequirementsStrategy and Planning<ul><li>Lead the company’s strategic and operational planning efforts by fostering innovation, planning, and organization of IT resources. Collaborate with internal stakeholders as determined in consultation with Vice President of Administration (VPA) and President, to develop and maintain an IT roadmap to contribute to organizational success.</li><li>Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems. Conceive, develop, and deliver equipment, techniques, practices, and procedures to meet the business objectives of the company including productivity standards and timelines, including integration of AI software </li><li>Identify emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on the organization.</li><li>Design, develop, implement, monitor, and coordinate policies and procedures for all areas of information technology.</li><li>Build and mentor a high-performing and proactive IT team aligned with strategic goals.</li><li>Procure all IT equipment and devices and assist with procurement and management of all software.</li></ul>Technical Expertise<ul><li>Keep current with the latest technologies, including the latest developments in the AEC industry, to maintain a competitive advantage and enhance user productivity through implementation of new technology</li><li>Keep current on capabilities of file management software (Egnyte). </li><li>Leverage outside technical expertise to ensure a high level of security, productivity, and overall user satisfaction at all times. </li><li>Ensure high availability, scalability, redundancy, and security of systems across all business units.</li></ul>Operational Management<ul><li>Lead all aspects of the day-to-day operation of company’s information technology and functional data systems, including software applications, network, storage, printers, copiers, phone systems and end-user computers.</li><li>Anticipate, coordinate, and oversee system updates, upgrades, migrations, and outages.</li><li>Ensure security of IT assets, data, network access, and backup systems. </li><li>Manage outside IT service providers. </li><li>Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies and protocols to protect data and systems.</li><li>Develop SOP with VPA to allow timely management of user accounts (creation or deletion) and timely notification of outside IT service providers.</li><li>Manage system file management software (Egnyte) contract.</li></ul>Budgeting and Financial Control<ul><li>Prepare long and short-term plans for acquisition of equipment, system development, and ongoing data management. Assure responsiveness of long-range plans to corporate objectives, including preparation of an annual IT budget for hardware, software, and providers, including necessary replacements, maintenance, and renewals. </li><li>Evaluate and recommend agreements for outside services, including data communications, cabling, offset data storage, equipment maintenance and repair, software support, and other services. Monitor and analyze trends in contractual agreements regarding performance, end user experience and make recommendations for their improvement.</li><li>Administer agreements with outside vendors and assure quality and cost effectiveness. Establish and monitor measurable financial, time and service goals for outside IT provider accountability. </li><li>Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment. Maintain records of inventory and distribution locations and develop SOP with VPA and accounting to track all company IT assets, including all servers, switches, computer hardware, computer software, printers, plotters, desk phones, and cell phones.</li></ul>High Level of End User Experience<ul><li>Lead communications and working relationships between IT and other departments within McGill and outside IT service providers.</li><li>Effectively communicate IT strategies, improvements, policies, and issues through VPA, President, and HR Director to all levels of staff and leadership.</li><li>Plan and execute upgrades and necessary service interruptions to occur during non-business hours such as nights and weekends.</li><li>The IT Director is expected to coordinate team travel to all of McGill locations as needed to ensure high level end user experience and proper operations.</li><li>The IT Director shall be available and responsive to service interruptions, whenever they occur, and manage the response and repairs. Ensures adequate budget controls of these funds.</li><li>Manages ongoing facility, grounds, and equipment review and assessment, and provides short and long-term budget projections for maintenance and capital improvements.</li><li>Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and purchasing to ensure quality work and competitive pricing.</li></ul>Facilities and Grounds Management<ul><li>Develops, updates, and implements a comprehensive plan for maintaining facilities, including scheduling needed repairs, preventive maintenance, and long-term renovations. </li><li>Works closely with the Executive Director and the Penland Buildings & Grounds committee on achieving the campus master plan goals.  This includes ensuring responsible forest management. </li><li>Serves on each capital project planning committee. In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director of Finance, develops a plan and timetable for new construction and renovation projects.</li><li>Manages construction and renovation projects, including coordination with architects, contractors, and project committees.</li><li>Ensures a clear process and recordkeeping for all maintenance and repair records to meet internal, county, and state requirements. Manage the campus-wide work order system. </li><li>Oversees the Penland water supply and distribution system, Penland septic system, and long-term water plan and goals. Ensure the systems are managed by certified operators (preferably class A).</li><li>Oversees septic, utilities, and schoolwide hazardous waste disposal management systems.</li><li>Works with the Director of Operations to evaluate and update building values for annual insurance premium renewals. </li><li>Promotes energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives aligned with LEED and environmental best practices.</li><li>Oversees land management, campus cleanup, and property stewardship.</li><li>Ensures that all property acquisition processes are thorough and strategically focused. </li></ul>Qualifications: <ul><li>Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in construction, facilities management, or a related field, including 1–3 years of supervisory experience.</li><li>Bachelor's degree preferred. Backgrounds in architecture, civil engineering, surveying, landscape planning, or related fields are helpful but not required.</li><li>Experience developing and managing operational and capital budgets.</li><li>Experience negotiating and managing construction contracts and interpreting construction documents.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with strong organizational and time management skills.</li><li>Strong strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support a team.</li><li>Sensitivity to historic preservation and principles of universal access.</li><li>Knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability practices, and groundwater management.</li><li>Familiarity with the North Carolina State Building Code and OSHA regulations.</li><li>Certification as a Class B water system operator, First Aid, and CPR (may be obtained after hire).</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.</li><li>Valid driver's license required.</li><li>A collaborative approach, practical mindset, and sense of humor.</li></ul>Physical Demands This position involves working both indoors and outdoors across Penland's campus.
