We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Commercial Building Inspector to join our team of professionals. JOB REQUIREMENTS:<ul><li>Performs daily field inspections of residential, commercial and public facility construction projects.</li><li>Interacts with the public and explains technical information to both technically and non-technically trained individuals.</li><li>Reviews residential and commercial plans and engineering calculations for building components to insure compliance with applicable codes.</li><li>Provides recommendations regarding interpretations of City, State, Federal, and Construction standards, as well as local ordinances.</li><li>Maintains accurate records to document inspections, test results, and additional details pertaining to inspections.</li><li>Maintains computer logs of inspection reports, entering inspection results into permitting software.</li><li>Perform other related duties as required. </li></ul>SKILLS:<ul><li>Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology</li><li>3+ yrs. experience with Interpretation of codes in the field providing code compliant solutions</li><li>Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills</li><li>Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment</li><li>Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere</li><li>Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions of the International Building Codes.</li><li>Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office. </li></ul>SPECIAL LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:<ul><li>ICC Commercial Combination Inspector required</li><li>ICC Inspector certifications in multiple trades preferred</li><li>Texas State Plumbing Inspector License preferred</li><li>Large commercial project experience required</li><li>Valid driver's license with good driving record </li></ul>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Mobility & Movement: <ul><li>Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections. </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas. </li></ul><ul><li>Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25-50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment). </li></ul>Vision & Hearing: <ul><li>Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details. </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection. </li></ul><ul><li>Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments. </li></ul>Manual Dexterity: <ul><li>Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting. </li></ul>Work Environment: <ul><li>Work performed in both office and field settings. </li></ul><ul><li>Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain). </li></ul><ul><li>Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.</li></ul> COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: SAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a comprehensive benefit offering. You will have an opportunity to be a part of advanced manufacturing, mission critical, DOT, and enormous federal projects in West Texas. Additionally, we operate as a close-knit team and will make sure your input is valued as we win and deliver these transformational projects.Core Responsibilities<ul><li>Performs construction-related field testing and inspections as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer.</li><li>Travels to various construction sites primarily throughout the West Texas area with the potential likely for overnight and/or weekend work as needed.</li><li>Performs field soil and Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) density testing using a nuclear density gauge and maintains proper handling procedures in accordance with radiation safety and HAZMAT requirements.</li><li>Performs field quality control testing of in-place concrete, including sampling and testing procedures.</li><li>Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.</li><li>Transports equipment, test specimens, and documentation to field personnel, laboratory staff, clients, or other offices.</li><li>Provides assistance with equipment setup and testing preparation at project sites.</li><li>Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.</li><li>Assists other technicians and professional staff with tasks and supports other departments as necessary.</li><li>Follows Atlas safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures.</li><li>Performs IBC Chapter 17 Special Inspections of Reinforced Concrete, Soils, Structural Masonry, Fireproofing, Firestopping, Structural Steel and Bolting, Welding, as applicable.</li><li>Supports projects from proposal through completion to ensure scope, schedule, budget and quality objectives are met</li><li>Maintains communication with clients, contractors, and senior staff as needed</li><li>Directs, where necessary, various activities at projects sites</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>You’ll thrive here if you have<ul><li>Willingness to travel and/or relocate to projects in West Texas</li><li>Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or nights often in excess of 50 hours per week</li><li>High School Diploma or GED Equivalent</li><li>2+ years of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) experience</li><li>Experience performing soil density testing using a nuclear density gauge</li><li>Completion of Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Training and HAZMAT certification</li><li>Experience performing concrete testing</li><li>Ability to lift and transport testing equipment.</li><li>Ability to maintain clear communication with clients, contractors, Atlas team members, etc.</li><li>Ability to lift and transport material samples and testing equipment, possibly in excess of 50 lbs</li><li>Ability to submit daily summary reports and supporting data electronically on a daily basis</li><li>ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I</li><li>APNGA/HAZMAT Certification for Nuclear Density Gauges</li><li>Familiarity with Submitting CMT Daily Reports</li><li>ACI Concrete Compressive Strength a Plus</li><li>TXAPA, NICET, or ICC Certifications (Reinforced Concrete & Soils) a Plus</li><li>OSHA 10 HR - A Plus</li><li>Experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control</li><li>These sites are in remote locations so the possibility of travel is high. If located near a project site, travel may be minimized.
