Overview:
The Design Professional supports the planning, design, and documentation of interior environments. This role assists with programming, space planning, code research, construction documentation, and construction phase services while gaining progressive responsibility and experience. Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Assist with client consultations to determine functional and spatial requirements</li><li>Support preparation of drawings, renderings, specifications, and contract documents</li><li>Assist with space planning and interior layout development</li><li>Perform code research and document compliance</li><li>Coordinate with architectural and engineering team members</li><li>Review shop drawings and submittals under supervision</li><li>Participate in site visits and assist with construction phase services</li><li>Prepare presentation materials including mood boards and finish selections</li><li>Maintain organized project documentation and materials libraries</li><li>Collaborate with consultants, contractors, owners, and internal teams</li><li>Support quality control processes</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>

Qualifications:

With a strong commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction, we are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Inspector to join our growing team.The Special Inspector will perform inspections and tests on construction materials and activities in the field to ensure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and relevant industry standards. This position requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.Essential Functions of the Position<ul><li>Perform field and/or laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities such as reinforced concrete, structural masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, and structural steel.</li><li>Prepare and maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.</li><li>Interpret project plans, specifications, and codes to ensure compliance.</li><li>Communicate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to report findings and resolve issues.</li><li>Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.</li></ul>Minimum Requirements<ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.</li><li>Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.</li><li>Current certifications in one or more of the following:</li><li>ICC Special Inspection (e.g., Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Soils, Steel & Welding)</li><li>ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I</li><li>AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)</li><li>NICET certification in construction or geotechnical inspection (preferred)</li><li>Strong understanding of IBC, ASTM, ACI, AWS, and other applicable codes and standards.</li><li>Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.</li><li>Ability to work independently in a field environment and maintain professionalism with clients and coworkers.</li></ul>Preferred Certifications (Not Required, but a Plus):<ul><li>Experience working on commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.</li><li>OSHA 10/30 certification.</li></ul>Physical Requirements<ul><li>Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the department needs.</li><li>Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.</li><li>Drive a company vehicle in a safe manner</li><li>Walk, stoop, bend, and climb up and down stairs and ladders</li><li>Stand, walk and balance in irregular and uneven terrain and pavements, concrete, grass, dirt and gravel.</li><li>Work in high grounds and high open buildings</li><li>Work outside for extended periods in the heat and cold</li><li>Ability to wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials</li><li>Ability to read and write in English</li><li>Willing to travel to support projects when needed</li></ul><h3>About Thompson Engineering</h3>Thompson Engineering was established in 1953 in Mobile, Alabama. Thompson Engineering has a full time opportunity for a Survey Party Chief. The Surveyor Party Chief oversees the survey crew in the daily responsibilities of the land surveying department. This position is responsible for reporting survey data to the Survey Team Manager. Ideal candidates would need to travel to support various project needs.Duties:<ul><li>Oversees the daily functions of the survey crew</li><li>Responsible for the set up and completion of the survey crew on job sites under the direct supervision of the Professional Land Surveyor and/or job supervisor</li><li>Ensures the proper reporting of daily work logs to the Org Manager</li><li>Reduces survey data to the Org Manager</li><li>Interprets blueprints/plans/deeds in order to effectively lead the survey crew</li><li>Drives company vehicle to and from job sites</li><li>Operates all survey equipment and interprets data in order to report information to the Org Manager</li><li>Understand and compute field calculations relative to the survey data collected</li><li>Effectively manage the time and schedules of the survey crew</li><li>On time and consistent attendance is required</li></ul>Minimum Requirements<ul><li>Five (5) years verifiable experience in running a crew in surveying commercial and/or heavy industrial construction stakeout.</li><li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Must have a valid Driver's License</li><li>Be able to read and comprehend measurements.</li><li>Intermediate math skills which include trigonometry and coordinate geometry.</li><li>Must be able to communicate effectively with others.</li><li>.Ability to travel and stay overnight based on the work load of the Survey Department</li></ul>Physical Requirements:<ul><li>Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time.</li><li>Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.</li><li>Required to remain standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day and walk long distances.</li><li>Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder.</li><li>Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites.</li></ul>About Thompson EngineeringThompson Engineering was established in 1953 in Mobile, Alabama.
