The Engineering Technician Internship is a temporary position within HII – Mission Technologies which prepares a college student for entry into the workforce by providing emphasis on training in machining, CNC operations, CAD/CAM, and hands-on engineering support. The intern will gain experience with fabrication equipment, safety procedures, maintenance practices, and research project support. Permanent US work authorization without the need for sponsorship now, or in the future is also required. </div> </div> <div style="padding:10.0px 0.0px;border:1.0px solid transparent"> <div style="word-wrap:break-word"> <h2 style="margin:0.0px"> What You Will Do </h2> </div> <div> •    Assist with preparing training materials, demonstrations, and basic hands‑on exercises related to CAD/CAM software, CNC machining, 3D printing and waterjet cutting. •    Support lab staff by helping set up equipment, organize tooling, and prepare materials for machining and prototyping tasks. •    Learn to operate CNC mills/lathes and waterjet cutting equipment at a beginner level under supervision. •    Help with routine equipment checks, cleanliness, organization, and basic preventative maintenance tasks. •    Assist in troubleshooting simple mechanical, pneumatic, or electrical issues by gathering information, documenting observations, and supporting senior staff. •    Work with research and engineering teams on straightforward testing and evaluation tasks related to ongoing projects. •    Support documentation efforts, including logging maintenance activities, tracking training participation, and recording project work. •    Uphold safety standards by maintaining clean workspaces, using required PPE, and following all lab procedures. •    Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. </div> </div> <div style="padding:10.0px 0.0px;border:1.0px solid transparent"> <div style="word-wrap:break-word"> <h2 style="margin:0.0px"> What You Must Have </h2> </div> <div> •    High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with up to 20% of the required credits completed. •    Preference for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering or similar degrees.   •    Minimum requirement of a cumulative 3.0 GPA while participating in this internship. </div> </div> <div style="padding:10.0px 0.0px;border:1.0px solid transparent"> <div style="word-wrap:break-word"> <h2 style="margin:0.0px"> Preferred Requirements </h2> </div> <div> •    Hands-on expertise with CNC mills/lathes and waterjet cutting systems. •    Strong mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting capabilities. •    Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics. •    Experience in research, prototyping, or educational lab environments. •    Familiarity with metals, plastics, composites, and other fabrication materials. •    Commitment to safety and best practices in a lab or workshop environment. </div> </div> <div style="padding:10.0px 0.0px;border:1.0px solid transparent"> <div style="word-wrap:break-word"> <h2 style="margin:0.0px"> Physical Requirements </h2> </div> <div> Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. Mission Statement:  Our mission is to preserve and enhance the distinctive botanical gardens of Madame Ganna Walska. Lotusland educates and inspires visitors with its collections, sustainable horticulture practices, and plant conservation. Position Summary:    This internship for academic credit will expose the intern to hands-on archival and collection-based work at a small institution. The intern will assist with archival processing, archival and museum storage, and data management. The collection is composed of a range of materials including traditional archives, costumes and textiles, fine art, garden sculpture, audiovisual materials, and architectural detail. We will work with the intern’s interests to create a project that will be seen to completion. The intern will contribute to an ongoing initiative to create an accessible, searchable, and complete inventory of historical and institutional collections for the use of Lotusland staff and researchers. The intern will be trained in best practices of collection management, processing, arrangement, description, rehousing, metadata creation and maintenance, and preservation of various materials. By the end of the internship, the intern will understand the importance of archives and collections as it provides value to the staff of the institution but also preserves an important piece of local history. About the collection: The cultural collections and archives at Lotusland can be seen as four distinct collections: 1. Madame Ganna Walska Collection, which includes Madame’s personal belongings, such as costume and personal papers. 2. Lotusland Historical and Institutional Collection, which includes administrative records and historical documents relating to Lotusland as an institution. 3. Architectural and Decorative Art Collection, which includes architectural details original to the estate and decorative sculpture, in the garden and in the various structures across the property. 4. Botanical Library Collection, which includes books, periodicals, and journals relating to plants, gardens, and botany as well as books relating to Madame Ganna Walska and Lotusland Specific Responsibilities:<ul><li style="margin-left:8px">Folder-level processing within a predetermined arrangement<ul style="list-style-type:circle"><li style="margin-left:8px">Describing collections with DACS and controlled vocabularies</li><li style="margin-left:8px">Data entry and metadata clean-up</li></ul></li><li style="margin-left:8px">Organizing unprocessed materials</li><li style="margin-left:8px">Cataloguing and condition reporting of photographs, illustrations, blueprints, garden designs, garden sculptures, paintings, architectural features, and audiovisual material</li><li style="margin-left:8px">Other duties as assigned</li></ul> Knowledge and Abilities:<ul style="margin-bottom:16px"><li style="margin-left:8px">Attention to detail and focus, especially when it comes to repetitive tasks </li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">An interest in collections maintenance, database management, and history </li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">Ability to use cell phone to complete tasks (our inventory software, CatalogIt, is image based and requires photos of entries) </li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">Proficiency in Microsoft Excel</li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">Ability to lift boxes of approximately 25 lbs. </li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">Ability to work independently under supervision </li><li style="margin-top:16px;margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:8px">Reliable transportation for onsite work; no possibility for remote work</li></ul>Everyday Safety Practices: Your health and safety are our top priorities when working at Lotusland.
