We are currently looking for energetic and knowledgeable civil engineering students to fill entry-level, temporary, Summer Civil Engineering Intern positions for our Urbandale and Cedar Rapids Offices in 2026. You will work under the direction of a senior team member and receive specific instruction for required tasks and project components. Duties may include: CAD design/drawing, basic engineering calculations, and field construction observation and materials testing. Instruction in basic AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer will be provided as you begin to apply engineering education to practical design solutions. ResponsibilitiesAssignments will be tailored to the course work completed by the intern and may include: <ul><li>Drawing (AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer) assignments to assist in development of project plans. </li><li>Standard computations or analysis. </li><li>Observe construction activities, assist with materials testing. </li><li>Perform basic survey services. </li><li>Perform bridge inspections in the field and assist with generating inspection reports. </li><li>Assists on other tasks such as: hydrology and hydraulics studies, report preparation, preparation of permit applications. </li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in progress; currently enrolled at an accredited university majoring in Civil Engineering </li><li>Experience in transportation or construction engineering a plus, but not required </li><li>Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of civil engineering to projects </li><li>High level of creativity </li><li>Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills </li><li>Successful candidates will be articulate with professional presence, with solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills </li><li>Valid Driver's License required </li></ul>Kirkham Michael is an equal opportunity employer.
