4) Ability to interpret, understand and explain retirement system statutes, rules, regulations, procedures and benefit provisions; 5) Ability to provide guidance in applying analytical methods and techniques in resolving controversial claims and highly complex problems; 6) Ability to recognize the need for new or amended changes to pension classes, rules, regulations, policies, guidelines and practices; and 7) Other areas, if applicable, related directly to the current vacancy positions including development of short and long-term plans consistent with ERSs goals and objectives; overseeing operational activities including finalizing service and disability retirements, reviewing and adjudicating disability retirement benefits, death benefits for active members and retirees; etc. Selective Certification Requirement (Employees Retirement System Experience): In order to perform the duties and responsibilities of these positions, applicants MUST possess demonstrated knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and practices of retirement; old-age insurance or pension programs or systems; extensive range of principles, practices and techniques of claims development and adjudication; and the ability to interpret, understand and explain retirement system statutes, rules, regulations, procedures and benefit provisions; provide guidance in applying analytical methods and techniques in resolving controversial claims and highly complex problems; and recognize the need for new or amended changes to pension classes, rules, regulations, policies, guidelines and practices.
