The Iron Worker Foreman is responsible for providing technical expertise ensuring that all safety procedures are followed; trains new employees, plan and issue work schedules, disciplines procedures, complete daily time sheets, overtime records and requisitions, order materials and distribute supplies and equipment. The Iron Worker Foreman is responsible for providing technical expertise ensuring that all safety procedures are followed; trains new employees, plan and issue work schedules, disciplines procedures, complete daily time sheets, overtime records and requisitions, order materials and distribute supplies and equipment. Directs, participates and supervise staff, who raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. Along with duties inherent in the supervision of employees, the Iron Worker Foreman, may work directly with the public and is expected to facilitate a professional relationship.</p><p><strong>Tasks Required</strong></p><ul><li>Supervise staff of Iron Workers</li><li>Oversee maintenance and repair of security doors, roll-up doors and gates</li><li>Oversee maintenance and repair for all Jell Cell Sliding Doors.</li><li>Oversee installation & maintenance of new paracentric security locks in all Jail Divisions</li><li>Direct and design layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work</li><li>Oversee building maintenance and attend meetings with buildings Division Management</li><li>Order and maintain materials and repair parts for the Metal Shop</li><li>Procure materials and repair parts for all Wayne County facilities.</li><li>Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required.</li><li>Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.</li></ul><p><strong>Educational/Experience Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Valid State of Michigan Operators License</li><li>Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations.</li><li>Five (5) years as Journeymen Foreman, seven (7) preferred.</li><li>At least three (3) years within the last five (5) years of experience as a Commercial Iron Worker.</li></ul><br/><br/>

We provide transparently while building a stronger County inclusive of collaborations, innovation, and a clear focus on serving our residents.</p><p><strong>DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES</strong></p><p>The Iron Worker is responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks; may erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.</p><p/><p><strong>Tasks Required</strong></p><ul><li>Coordinate, schedule, train and assign work to Iron Worker Apprentices.</li><li>Direct and design layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work</li><li>Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required.</li><li>Analyze defects and makes repairs to all steel, aluminum and metal equipment stairs, doors, jail doors, ramps, and ladders</li><li>Assemble all components of boilers using hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment.</li><li>Install and maintenance of steel roll up, overhead and garage doors.</li><li>Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors. Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place.</li><li>Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables, using chains, cables, or rope.</li><li>Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.</li><li>Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.</li><li>Erect metal or precast concrete components or structures, such as buildings, bridges, dams, dowers, storage tanks, fences, or highway guard rails.</li><li>Force structural steel members into final positions, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.</li><li>Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks to move heavy equipment or materials.</li><li>Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instruction from supervisors.</li><li>Dismantle structures or equipment.</li><li>Perform additional duties as needed.</li></ul><p><strong>Educational/Experience Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent</li><li>Valid Driver's License</li><li>Possession of a Bricklayer Journeyman License</li><li>Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations</li><li>At least three (3) years of Bricklayer Journeyman experience; five (5) years preferred as a Bricklayer Journeyman</li></ul><p/><ul><li><strong>THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION.
