The Laboratory Accessioner assures all specimens delivered to the laboratory are ordered properly received and distributed to laboratory departments for testing or sent out to an approved reference laboratory.

 General Summary of Position The Laboratory Accessioner assures all specimens delivered to the laboratory are ordered properly received and distributed to laboratory departments for testing or sent out to an approved reference laboratory. All referred specimens are received and properly prepared prior to being sent out/ picked up by the receiving reference laboratory i.e. centrifuged with plasma/ serum stored properly for testing (refrigerated frozen etc). Performs a variety of routine and Stat as well as special laboratory collection procedures. This is PRN role, working hours will vary based on departmental needs.   Training will occur on day shift.   Primary Duties and Responsibilities <ul><li>Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.</li><li>Ensures all reference specimens are processed and packed up correctly in a timely manner meeting pick-up deadlines.</li><li>Responsible for verifying all incoming specimens are ordered properly received and distributed to the appropriate section timely. Orders testing as needed or required; cancels tests with appropriate notification and LIS comment.</li><li>Ensures all specimen manifests from outreach facilities are received and with manifests maintained in the appropriate log book. Troubleshoots as necessary.</li><li>Responsible for reviewing the LIS pending log against the reference lab master log to ensure all tests have been sent out correctly. Troubleshoots outliers as needed.</li><li>Operates and maintains centrifuges daily and logs maintenance performed onto the appropriate log. Troubleshoots as necessary and reports problems/ issues to supervisor immediately.</li><li>Responsible for organizing and maintaining specimen storage refrigerator/ freezer for seven (7) days or longer as required.</li><li>Competent and efficient in performing phlebotomy procedures blood collection via venipuncture or capillary collection on all age groups and other specimen collection i.e. throat nose etc. as required.</li><li>Assists in the orientation/ training of new associates as requested.</li></ul>Minimal Qualifications Education<ul><li>High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required</li></ul>Experience<ul><li>1-2 years Previous phlebotomy experience required</li><li>Phlebotomy technician ASCP or ASPT certified preferred</li></ul>Licenses and Certifications<ul><li>CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred</li><li>ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist preferred</li></ul>

About this Job:
This is a part time role, 24 hours per week, generally this role will work 12:30pm - 9pm 3 days per week, including weekends.   General Summary of Position Performs a variety of laboratory testing from waived to high complexity per CLIA. Will work in one or more laboratory sections. Evaluates and reports results for use in patient diagnosis and treatment. Primary Duties and Responsibilities <ul><li>Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.</li><li>Performs a wide variety of routine and special procedures following prescribed protocol and using manual or automated methods; calculates and reports results as established; consults with pathologist regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.</li><li>Processes specimens ensuring accuracy of identification; confidentiality of information; and appropriate preparation storage and transportation; may perform specimen procurement as required.</li><li>Operates and maintains laboratory equipment in areas of assignment; troubleshoots problems; and validates and documents information as required per standard protocol.</li><li>Participates in surveys conducts established quality control of procedures evaluates results implements corrective action when indicated and ensures accuracy of test results.</li><li>Prepares evaluates and labels reagents media etc. per procedure.</li><li>Maintains inventory supply; stocks and maintains neat orderly work area.</li><li>Trains new associates and students in new procedures; evaluates and documents performance.</li><li>Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams; participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.</li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned and maintains requirements for clinical ladder.</li></ul>Minimal Qualifications Education<ul><li>Associate's degree in accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program required or</li><li>60 semester hrs including 24 semester hrs of medical lab technology required or</li><li>60 semester hrs including 24 hrs of science that includes 6 hrs chemistry 6 hrs biology and 12 hrs chemistry biology required or</li><li>medical lab tech in any combination and laboratory training that includes either completion of a clinical lab training program required or</li><li>3 months training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed. required</li></ul>Experience<ul><li>Less than 1 year Up to one year of prior supervised technical experience in a licensed clinical laboratory under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist. required</li></ul>Licenses and Certifications<ul><li>Certified Medical Lab Scientist-ASCP A MT (ASCP) or equivalent certificate from a national agency in the field of laboratory medicine (i.e. MT (ASCP) MT (AMT) NRCC(CC) CLT(HHS) CLS(NCA) etc). preferred</li></ul>
