Educates physicians and clinical personnel to ensure complete documentation in the medical record and queries physicians to resolve incomplete or conflicting information to ensure compliant coding and billing practices. Educates and trains coders to ensure both a working knowledge of coding and reimbursement guidelines and successful career ladder completion, including the development of training materials and reference documents. <p><strong><u>Position Goal</u></strong></p><p><strong>To assist with proper maintenance of Durable Medical Equipment supplies/orders and assist with Casting and W/C Pharmacy as necessary with patient care activities. Preform all patient care activities for cast and post-op care.</strong></p><p><strong><u>Position Responsibilities:</u></strong></p><ul><li>Escort patients as necessary from the waiting area to the cast room and/or DME area for analysis of needs.</li><li>Remove and apply casts, both fiberglass, plaster and other appliances as needed</li><li>Assist in fracture reductions and minor surgical procedures as well as remove sutures, staples, and apply bandages.</li><li>Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.</li><li>Stock and maintain workspaces.</li><li>Assist with supply, DME ordering, inventory activities, receiving etc. and in always maintaining appropriate inventory levels.</li><li>Deliver DME products to area hospitals as needed.</li><li>Obtain authorization for custom braces and all DME prescribed for worker's compensation patients.</li><li>Review DME receipts to ensure billing of items daily.</li><li>Responsible for patient care activities such as determining proper DME sizing and fitting items when needed.</li><li>Work DME hold buckets in workflow dashboard in Athena throughout the day.</li><li>Ensure DME orders and procedure documentation is complete prior to issuing DME.</li><li>Assist in properly and accurately dispensing pre-packed medications to patients as directed by Physician.</li><li>Triage cast patients with problems in absence of physician if necessary.</li><li>Provide back-up support in performing Medical Assistant duties when necessary (if applicable).</li></ul><p><strong>Experience:</strong></p><p><em><u><strong>Required</strong>:</u></em></p><ul><li>One (1) year Orthopaedic healthcare experience.</li></ul><p><strong><u><em>Preferred:</em></u></strong></p><ul><li>One (1) year of Ortho Tech or two (2) years casting experience.</li></ul><p><strong>Education:</strong></p><p><u><em><strong>Required:</strong></em></u></p><ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Certified DME/Cast Technician </li></ul><p><u><em><strong>Preferred:</strong></em></u></p><ul><li>Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic specialist training program.</li></ul><p><strong>Special Qualifications:</strong></p><p><u><em><strong>Required:</strong></em></u><br/>
