AmeriCorps EXL Member Position Description AmeriCorps Expanded Learning Mentor Position Description -CalistogaPosition Title: Full Time Member, 1700 hr (10 Months)   Stipend Amount: $3,000Service Term: September 2026 - June 2027Reports to: School Site Coordinator and AmeriCorps EXL Program Coordinator  Position Summary  AmeriCorps EXL offers a meaningful opportunity to support students' academic growth and personal development while being part of a dedicated team making a lasting impact in schools. Students are at the heart of our work. We are seeking proactive, adaptable, enthusiastic, and dedicated AmeriCorps EXL Mentors to support the academic and social emotional development of students in local area schools of Santa Rosa, California. We partner with schools to identify students who would benefit from a positive, adult role model. EXL Mentors play a key role in leading Active Recess activities with students. Each Member is placed at one school site upon hiring to serve for the entire school year (commuting among school sites is not a daily requirement.) Program Overview  The goal of the AmeriCorps EXL program is to provide comprehensive support to students within the Calistoga Joint Unified School District in Calistoga. All students at the school site benefit from organized, collaborative games and conflict resolution support during recess and lunch. Students in need of additional support will be assessed and provided with targeted literacy and/or math tutoring services and may also be placed in a social-emotional mentoring group to further support their academic success and overall well-being.Essential AmeriCorps Duties  Active Recess:  <ul><li>Active Recess: Structured and organized activities facilitated by adults in order to encourage students in games/sports while building conflict resolution skills during the core day and after school. </li></ul><ul><li>Members are assigned a daily game that they facilitate and engage with students, focusing on supporting positive student behaviors.  </li></ul>  Academic Tutoring: <ul><li>Working with students who are academically below grade level in literacy and/or math skills.  </li></ul><ul><li>Tutoring: Lead daily 30-minute academic tutoring sessions with students 1-to-1, in pairs, or in small groups at least 4 days a week.  </li></ul><ul><li>Students will attend tutoring for half of the school year.  </li></ul><ul><li>Lesson plans are created and implemented by the Mentor and/or provided by the teacher or curriculum. </li></ul>Mentoring Services: <ul><li>Mentors will work with students who need additional support in skill development, relationship-building, and personal growth.   </li></ul>Expanded Learning Support:  <ul><li>Expanded Learning programs support selected students beyond the classroom, outside the normal school day hours. Expanded Learning programs are often referred to as After School programs.  </li></ul><ul><li>Support the after-school program, COOL School, through engaging with groups of students during the homework hour, leading physical, interpersonal and enrichment activities.  </li></ul><ul><li>Members will support the student Spring Break and summer programs.  </li></ul>Member Development:  <ul><li>Participate in training and professional development to improve quality services for youth  </li></ul><ul><li>Participate in National Service events to support the local community </li></ul><ul><li>Weekend Service Days- 2 MAnadatory throughout Service Contract  </li></ul>Service Commitment I Full Time 1700 Hour Member  <ul><li>Full Time, 10-month  commitment serving a minimum of 1700 hours - may include some weekends and evenings, additional service events to fulfill the AmeriCorps contractual service expectations.  </li></ul><ul><li>10 Month Contract Hours- Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 6pm daily over 11 months.  </li></ul><ul><li>Members are not expected to serve during days their school site is closed according to each district specific school calendar.  (Spring Break Intercession program is mandatory)</li></ul><ul><li>Service hours are expected to occur in-person at school sites, and EXL members are required to live within a reasonable commute distance from their school site.  </li></ul>Areas of Responsibility  <ul><li>Must be at least 18 years of age (17 with parental approval)  </li></ul><ul><li>Clear criminal background check (DOJ and FBI; National Sex Offender Public Database)  </li></ul><ul><li>Submit current, clear TB (tuberculosis) test  </li></ul><ul><li>Must have at least a high school diploma or a GED by start date  </li></ul><ul><li>Must either be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States (Due to federal grant restrictions, we currently cannot accept DACA recipients)  </li></ul><ul><li>Passion for education and working with youth of all backgrounds  </li></ul><ul><li>Organized, responsible, flexible, motivated and professional  </li></ul><ul><li>Strong personal standards of excellence, ethics and integrity  </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the program’s safety policies and rules  </li></ul>Benefits of Service  <ul><li>Monthly Living Stipend of $3,000 (10 Month contract)</li><li>Segal Education Award of $7,395.00 and the California Education for All Award of $2,605.00* upon completion of service, which can be used to pay for educational expenses or to repay qualified student loans up to 10k.</li><li>Health Benefits  </li><li>Eligibility for CalFresh (CA’s food stamp program)  ​​​​​​</li><li>$250 Moving Stipend for applicants moving from over 250 miles from the service site.​​​</li><li>Federal Student Loan deferment and interest repayment.</li><li>Extensive Professional Development and experiential learning opportunities.</li><li>*Please note: the living stipend and education awards are taxable </li></ul>Powered by JazzHR
