</p><p><strong>Job Title:</strong> Model Shop Animation Technician<br/><strong>Company:</strong> LEGOLAND New York Resort<br/><strong>Department:</strong> Technical Services<br/><strong>Reports To:</strong> Model Shop Manager</p><h3><strong>Position Overview</strong></h3><p>LEGOLAND New York Resort is seeking a hands-on, innovative Model Shop Animation Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and creation of animated LEGO® models and attractions. This role blends engineering, artistry, and guest engagement—ideal for a maker who thrives on building, troubleshooting, and bringing models to life through motion, sound, and automation.</p><p>You will play a critical role in ensuring all animated elements across the resort operate reliably, safely, and at the highest quality to deliver an exceptional guest experience.</p><h3><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h3><ul><li>Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical models, animatronics, and audio/visual effects across the resort</li><li>Perform daily pre-opening inspections, ensuring all animation, lighting, motion, and interactive effects are fully operational</li><li>Conduct ongoing inspections throughout the day, particularly within Miniland attractions</li><li>Respond promptly to operational calls and resolve technical issues with minimal guest disruption</li><li>Collaborate with Model Builders and Automation Technicians on repairs, upgrades, and preventative maintenance</li><li>Fabricate and repair steel structures, armatures, supports, and mounting hardware for LEGO models</li><li>Operate machine tools including drill presses, saws, grinders, lathes, and mills</li><li>Maintain and troubleshoot systems involving PLCs, low-voltage motors, pneumatic systems, lighting, and A/V equipment</li><li>Source and request parts and components for repairs and builds</li><li>Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspaces</li><li>Support additional Technical Services functions across the park and hotel as needed</li></ul><h3><strong>Technical Focus Areas</strong></h3><ul><li>Animatronics and automated show systems</li><li>Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including ladder logic</li><li>Beckhoff PLC systems and show controllers (preferred)</li><li>Electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and A/V systems</li><li>Fabrication and mechanical assembly</li><li>Preventative maintenance programs</li></ul><h3><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></h3><ul><li>Experience designing, building, installing, and maintaining electromechanical or automation systems</li><li>Strong troubleshooting skills across both hardware and software systems</li><li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams</li><li>Proficiency with power tools and fabrication equipment</li><li>Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems</li><li>Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in urgent situations</li><li>Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction while making sound decisions</li></ul><h3><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></h3><ul><li>Experience with animatronics or themed entertainment systems</li><li>Familiarity with PLC programming and ladder logic</li><li>Experience with Beckhoff controls or similar systems</li><li>Background in CAD design, 3D printing, or prototyping</li><li>Previous experience in a model shop or creative fabrication environment</li></ul><h3><strong>Work Environment & Schedule</strong></h3><ul><li>Full-time role (approximately 40 hours per week)</li><li>Schedule varies based on park operations, including weekends and holidays</li><li>Typically includes two consecutive days off during the week</li></ul><h3><strong>Health, Safety & Compliance</strong></h3><ul><li>Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures</li><li>Ensure compliance with ASTM, NEC, OSHA, NSF, and applicable state and local regulations</li><li>Identify and report risks, hazards, incidents, or accidents promptly</li><li>Maintain a safe environment for guests, team members, and attractions at all times</li></ul><h3><strong>What We’re Looking For</strong></h3><p>A true “maker” mindset—someone who enjoys building robots, solving complex problems, and blending technical expertise with creativity.
