Details: This position is part-time with 19 hours per week. Responsible for all duties required at the circulation desk.<hr/>Supervision ReceivedWorks under the supervision of the Library Director.<hr/>Supervision ExercisedMay exercise limited supervision over temporary personnel or volunteers, as assigned.<hr/>Examples of Work(Illustrative Only)Essential Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Opens and closes the library according to established procedures.</li><li>Front desk – responsible for front desk duties including computer usage by patrons, registering new patrons, making copies, sending faxes, calling on holds, etc.</li><li>Assist patrons in using the online library catalog and locating library materials.</li><li>Schedule requested use of the meeting rooms and secure the day and time in the appropriate notebook.</li><li>Provide immediate assistance to patrons that are checking out library materials or needing other services.</li><li>Check in library materials that are returned to the library within one hour of return and ensure their return to proper places by the end of the business day.</li><li>Answer telephone calls promptly and provide information or assist callers as appropriate.</li><li>Handle patron inquiries concerning overdue fines and lost material fees, collect and record fines and maintain and update confidential patron records.</li><li>Monitor the use of public computers and assist with technical concerns and questions.</li><li>Conduct tours of library facilities for various educational or civic groups and interested individuals, as required.</li></ul>Specialty Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Greets customers upon entry to the library.</li><li>Manages computer reservations and assist patrons accessing emails, websites, performing job searches and building resumes.</li><li>Oversees the use of the automated circulation system.</li><li>Assist the Library Director with the overdue process by making the initial contact for overdue items.</li><li>Pull library material placed on hold and notify patrons when material is available for pick up.</li><li>Inputs data into the computer; such as new patron cards, library items, etc.</li><li>Perform regular patron record maintenance.</li><li>Provide patrons with information about programs and services.</li><li>Attend additional events that may include but is not limited to County Fair parade, manning a fair booth, attending outreach events and visiting schools.</li><li>Assist with the creation of library displays.</li></ul>Professionalism & Communication<ul><li>Attends department meetings and communicates regularly with the Department Head and co-workers.</li><li>Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.</li><li>Provides timely, respectful and thorough customer service.</li><li>Communicates daily with cross-functional teams regarding issues, events, and updates.</li><li>Maintains a proper professional image and generates positive public image.</li><li>Expected to be a leader within the organization as well as in our community.</li></ul>Other Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Assist staff in providing support and help for the ongoing programs.</li><li>Assists the Library Director with the initial stages of the collection process and long range departmental planning and program development.</li><li>Participates in professional library organizations on the state level and assists with presentations and information sharing.</li><li>Pursues ongoing educational opportunities to enhance job performance.</li><li>All other duties as assigned.</li></ul><hr/>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<ul><li>Must demonstrate an interest in and genuine desire to serve people.</li><li>Have excellent public relation skills with library customers and community organizations.</li><li>Have good oral and written communication skills.</li></ul><ul><li>Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs; some knowledge of library circulation or processing techniques; working knowledge of library classification systems; working knowledge of basic office procedures</li><li>Skilled in use of general office equipment, computer, etc.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, employees, supervisors, and the general public.</li><li>Must be able to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workloads and complete tasks in a timely manner.</li><li>Possess a general knowledge of information technology and be committed to continual individual development.</li><li>Ability to work a varied schedule including some Saturdays.</li></ul><hr/>Acceptable Education and Experience<ul><li>High school diploma or GED.</li><li>One to three years customer service experience.</li><li>One to two years library experience preferred.</li></ul><hr/>Special Qualifications<ul><li>Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.</li></ul><hr/>Essential Physical Abilities<ul><li>This job requires long periods of standing.</li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear.</li><li>Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.</li><li>Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.</li><li>The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.</li><li>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.</li></ul><hr/>Appointees will be subject to completion of a standard probationary period.
