Adheres to and follows proper utilization of body mechanics, policies and procedures, and standards established by Xanitos, hospital, department and regulatory agencies.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. <ul><li>Verifies correct patient identification by utilizing two patient identifiers and comparing the information with the assignment information. In addition to the full patient name, the patient date of birth or Medical Record Number must be verified. If both of the identifiers do not match the patient is not transported, and the discrepancy is reported to the nursing staff and the transportation dispatcher right away.</li><li>Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination using equipment that is safe and proper for that transport.</li><li>Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs, gurneys, exam tables, chairs and beds.</li><li>Demonstrates competency in transporting all specific age groups and cultures.</li><li>Verifies and utilizes proper mode of transportation.</li><li>Follows standard and isolation precaution guidelines.</li><li>Ensures proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.</li><li>Notifies nursing immediately if patient condition changes.</li><li>Properly secures IV, drainage tubes, etc. and secures the patient prior to transporting.</li><li>Notifies nursing personnel, clinical staff, technicians or receptionists upon arrival of a patient.</li><li>Ensure the comfort of the dignity of patients by being attentive; offers blanket, covers patient properly. Only engages in appropriate conversation with patients. Does not transport a patient who is experiencing moderate to severe pain.</li><li>Assists nursing in transferring patients to and from bed or chair to wheelchair or gurney. Consults with nursing and obtains assistance when required.</li><li>Consults with nursing and obtains assistance.</li><li>Notifies dispatcher of any delays or cancellations or changes in status of the transport.</li><li>Removes and properly bags soiled linen after each transport is completed</li><li>Sanitizes all transport equipment after each use.</li><li>Never leaves patient alone in a treatment area or corridor. Always ensures proper hand off to receiving department personnel.</li><li>Reports any equipment needing repair.</li><li>Maintains confidentiality of patients in accordance with hospital policy.</li><li>Collects and returns transportation equipment to proper storage place.</li><li>Responds to emergency situations in according to hospital policy.</li><li>Transports small equipment or tools between departments.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Job Qualifications:<ul><li>Successful applicants for this position must complete a Finger Print Scan and clear a Child Abuse Report.</li><li>COVID-19 vaccination is not required but strongly recommended.</li><li>Experience in the medical EVS industry is a plus.</li><li>Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment is a plus.</li><li>Post-Offer Medical, Background Screening and Drug Test required.</li></ul> Education/Experience: High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Interacts hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors, and work colleagues.· Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance, control, or other nursing interventions or exhibits unusual behavior or verbalizations. Immediately reports any potentially dangerous behavior or concerning conversations to the nurse.· Collaborates to identify and report patient safety issues. Assures patient environment is safe, reporting any safety hazards to the charge nurse. Removes visible hazards and reports, as appropriate.· Assists in calming and/or reorienting patient in cases of distress, or confusion.· Assists with keeping patient's room, safe and in an orderly fashion at all times.· Escorts patient when diagnostic testing is required.· Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patient when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
