The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our growing practice.  We are looking for motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.Job Responsibilities:<ul><li>Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel</li><li>Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation</li><li>Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells, borings, excavations, drains, and surface water bodies</li><li>Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing</li><li>Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results</li><li>Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results</li></ul>Required Skills/Experience:<ul><li>Prior experience on construction projects (minimum 2 yrs is preferred)</li><li>Technician certification (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO)</li><li>40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or the ability to obtain in 6 months</li><li>MSHA 24 Training or the ability to obtain in 6 months</li><li>Excellent mathematic computational skills</li><li>High School degree</li><li>Valid Driver’s License</li><li>Possess good oral, written, communication, skills</li><li>Candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside.</li><li>Basic Knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing</li><li>Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team</li><li>Attention to detail and well-organized</li><li>Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level</li><li>Basic understanding of and ability to use of hand tools</li></ul>Other Requirements:<ul><li>Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check</li><li>Ability to pass a pre-employment screening</li></ul>The compensation range for this position is between $16/hr to $22/hr. Key responsibilities will focus on project execution and delivery, providing exceptional client service, and mentoring the team.
