Position Summary:The Part Time Instructor of the Medical Assistant Program is part of the adult education team at Briya Public Charter School - a leading two-generation education program that primarily serves immigrant parents and their young children in Washington, D.C. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative programming. In the tuition-free Medical Assistant Program, students prepare for successful healthcare careers by gaining medical knowledge, clinical practice, and administrative skills in a collaborative environment. In addition, Briya coordinates students' internships and externships and prepares students to take the nationally recognized Registered Medical Assistant certification exam. Briya closely partners and co-locates with Mary's Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, supporting students' comprehensive needs and allowing for crossover between clinic and classroom. This position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job. It is recognized that other related duties not specifically mentioned might also be performed, and that not all listed responsibilities may be carried out, depending on operational needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Schedule in-person: Part Time: 15 hours/week including 2 or 3 nights/week 5:30-9:00) The position may include, but is not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities:  Instruction:  <ul><li>Prepare students to work competently and safely as Registered Medical Assistants </li><li>Deliver quality instruction that fosters an inclusive, safe, scholarly, and collaborative learning climate through actions such as: <ul><li>Providing whole class, small group, pair, and individual instruction </li><li>Circulating to ensure student engagement and understanding  </li><li>Differentiating instruction to meet learning needs for all students </li><li>Reinforcing students' learning through a variety of appropriate student-centered activities.  </li><li>Facilitating engaging learning environment (including movement) </li></ul></li><li>Employ principles of Adult Learning Theory for content delivery </li><li>Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect </li><li>Teach students a variety of healthcare related topics through a Medical Assistant curriculum that includes, but is not limited to: <ul><li>Administrative tasks </li><li>Legal concepts </li><li>Finance </li><li>Biology (Anatomy, physiology & pathology) </li><li>Pharmacology </li><li>Laboratory procedures </li><li>Workforce readiness. </li></ul></li><li>Demonstrate and evaluate students in safe and competent medical assisting skills including, but not limited to: <ul><li>Vital signs </li><li>Injections (IM, SubQ, ID) </li><li>Medication administration (oral, inhaled, topical, otic, ophthalmic) </li><li>Point-of-Care testing </li><li>Infection control procedures inclusive of sterile practices </li><li>EKGs </li><li>Venipuncture </li></ul></li><li>Prepare students to to pass the Registered Medical Assistant certification exam and be effective medical assistants by periodically researching or referring to certification requirements and current trends in health care. </li></ul>Collaboration:  <ul><li>Collaborate and meet with workforce colleagues to ensure general alignment of units and learning goals,, reflect on lessons, and share student progress or concerns </li><li>Provide reflections and feedback of lessons to workforce colleagues following individual lessons and completed modules </li><li>Contribute to building a positive team spirit, putting success of the team above own interests, supporting everyone’s efforts to succeed, working well in multidisciplinary team setting. </li></ul>Knowledge, skills, and abilities:  <ul><li>Knowledge of healthcare industry and awareness of trends and evidence-based practice. </li><li>Effective in directing and evaluating learning and laboratory performance and an understanding and/or willingness to learn education theory and techniques </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team </li><li>Ability to teach classes in English, with preference for instructors who also have additional language skills to support students </li><li>Strong organizational skills </li><li>Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills </li></ul> Briya ValuesSuccessful employees will demonstrate the school’s five core values:<ul><li>Learner-Centeredness: Student agency and voice are foundational to high-quality education.</li><li>Inclusiveness: People of all countries, races, religions, cultures, genders, sexual orientations, languages, abilities, and life experiences are integral to the Briya community.</li><li>Trust: A space of safety and mutual respect among students and staff promotes optimal growth and belonging.</li><li>Collaboration: Strategic, agile collaboration on all levels—among staff, students, departments, and community partners—increases the holistic success of student families.</li><li>Equity: The pursuit of equity drives Briya’s work. Reporting to the Manager of Public Safety & Security, the Special Police Officer, licensed with the Security Officer Management Branch, provides a safe and pleasant environment for all visitors, guests and employees to the property. Responsible for maintaining order on the property, utilizing the respect, care and to the greatest extent possible, positive customer service in dealing with guests, visitors, employees and unknown individuals.

Summary:Reporting to the Manager of Public Safety & Security, the Special Police Officer, licensed with the Security Officer Management Branch, provides a safe and pleasant environment for all visitors, guests and employees to the property. Special Police Officer performs protective and enforcement functions when coping with undesired behavior, disturbance, crime, threats of life and property. In all situations, the Officers perform their duties in a courteous, professional and restrained manner, through legal methods approved and in compliance with provisions of the District of Columbia Code, Sections 4-114 and 4-115 and company policies.This is a part-time, year round position scheduled to work an average of 34 hours per week and is designated as an “essential employee.” As such, the Special Police Officer may be required to stay beyond regular work hours and/or report in from off-duty to assist with minimum staffing coverage.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Covers the overlap between main shift transitions, vacations, sick days, and leave of absences as needed.</li><li>Performs duties in a respectful, professional and dignified manner ensuring compliance with established standards.</li><li>Conducts the required patrols as outlined by your Post Instructions and Supervisor Informational Updates in a manner that is investigative, complete, competent and dedicated to the standards of the company.</li><li>Responsible for maintaining order on the property, utilizing the respect, care and to the greatest extent possible, positive customer service in dealing with guests, visitors, employees and unknown individuals.</li><li>Responsible for ensuring that trespassers and undesirable individuals are kept off of the property, utilizing the legal methods outlined in the provided policies and procedures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.</li></ul>Compensation:The projected wage rate for this position is $17.95 - $21.00 per hour.  Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements.
