Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally. We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team.  As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated software applications using Python, C#, C++, and Linux. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, scalable, and user-friendly applications that meet our clients' needs. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position. This position reports to the Manger of Software Systems.Duties and Responsibilities <ul><li>Design, develop, and maintain software applications using Python, C#, C++, and Linux.</li><li>Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define project requirements and deliver innovative solutions.</li><li>Optimize code for performance, scalability, and maintainability.</li><li>Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers.</li><li>Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our solutions remain at the forefront of innovation.</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.</li><li>Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and practices.</li></ul>Qualifications & Competencies<ul><li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>7+ years of professional experience in software development with a strong focus on Python, C#, C++, and Linux.</li><li>Proficiency in Python, C#, and C++.</li><li>Experience with Linux operating systems and development environments.</li><li>Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.</li><li>Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.</li><li>Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.</li><li>Strong communication and collaboration skills.</li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications: <ul><li>Experience with other programming languages such as Java or Rust.</li><li>Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).</li><li>Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).</li><li>Experience with performance profiling and optimization tools.</li></ul>Working Conditions<ul><li>Daily Job duties will consist of office, lab, and desk work with occasional field testing required.<ul><li>Candidate may be required to work underground, but on an infrequent basis</li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near large moving machinery</li><li>Customer operations may contain airborne particles and allergens</li><li>Matrix employees are furnished and required to wear safety gear such as hard hats, steel toe shoes, reflective clothing, earplugs, and safety glasses</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Occasional travel and ability to work various shifts as required by customer </li></ul>Physical RequirementsThe employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, or crouch.
