Must possess knowledge of occupational safety regulations, and safe work practices and procedures, including confined entry procedures; skill in the use of automated engineering equipment, such as Auto CAD and GIS preferred; ability to read, understand, and interpret codes, specifications, engineering maps and plans, construction drawings, as-built drawings, and blueprints to compare with progress of public works and utilities construction projects; ability to closely observe construction work in progress and detect poor construction, inferior materials, and deviations from plans; prepare and issue technical or professional documents; and, ability to analyze complex issues and make critical decisions under time constraints. Performs a full range of review, inspection and evaluation of public and private construction projects, including street improvements such as paving, curb-and-gutters, sidewalks, and driveway connections; drainage facilities including storm drains, junction boxes, channels, culverts and headwalls; underground utility systems including lift stations, water and sewer mains, taps, force mains; parks projects; and miscellaneous works such as earthwork, streetlights and traffic signals.
