Title: Healthcare Advocate Location: Northeastern Region (Hybrid) Employment Type: Full-Time/Perm Description: • The Healthcare Advocate will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as they transition into and navigate coordinated healthcare plans designed for dual-eligible participants. • This role is pivotal in providing guidance, advocacy, and education to ensure participants and their caregivers access appropriate services, benefits, and support for independent living and community integration. Duties and Responsibilities: • Offer in-person and virtual assistance, advocacy, and education to participants and their caregivers, addressing enrollment, benefits, coverage, and access procedures. • Assist with resolving quality of care and quality of life concerns through skilled negotiation and by providing support for grievances and appeals. • Conduct outreach and educational presentations tailored for families, caregivers, and various stakeholders. • Develop and distribute outreach materials such as templates, posters, factsheets, and videos for participant education. • Maintain effective communication with managed care organizations and participate in stakeholder advisory committees. • Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards and maintain up-to-date records in relevant databases. • Provide training to other advocates and develop consumer-focused materials. • Analyze systemic challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and contribute to strategic solutions. • Research and assist in report preparation as required. Required Skills: • Advanced knowledge of healthcare coverage, IDD services, and eligibility guidelines. • Exceptional advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. • Proficiency in basic office software and familiarity with relevant healthcare policies and resources. • Ability to manage time effectively to balance outreach, case management, and administrative responsibilities. • Research and analytical skills, with an understanding of relevant laws and policies. Desired Skills: • Experience with IDD communities and knowledge of associated services. • Personal experience with disabilities or direct advocacy is a plus. • Bilingual capabilities and driving experience are advantageous. The program is interested in hiring two neurosurgeons who will assist in building the neurosurgery service line in a new city and collaborate with the existing team nearby. Interests in general neurosurgery, neurovascular, functional, spine, or tumors will be well supported. The most comprehensive health system in its area, this is the region’s referral center across multiple specialties, including in the neurosciences. The health system boasts state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and strives to be an outstanding place for caregivers and patients alike. Neurosurgeons admit to a nearly 400-bed, Level III Trauma Center that has just been built, as well as hospitals within the hiring health system that offer 350+ beds. The newly finished hospital stands ready to support neurosurgical procedures, and is planning to acquire image-guided navigational equipment in the near future. The health system's hospitals offer all of the latest equipment for general, neurovascular, functional, spine, and cranial neurosurgical procedures. The health system's flagship hospital also functions as a teaching hospital, allowing interested providers to work with medical students. <h3>Practice Highlights:</h3><ol><li>1:3 call schedule; call is compensated</li><li>Supportive APPs who assist with rounds, consultations, admissions, and discharges</li><li>Strong internal referral patterns through hospital's medical group, ED, and hospitalists</li><li>Primary catchment area of 250,000 residents</li><li>Block OR time</li><li>Ability to take complex cases to the health system's main location; fully integrated with existing neurosurgery team</li><li>Neurovascular candidates can expect an initial case mix of 10% endovascular with opportunity to grow; access to a Siemens Bi-Plane Angio Suite</li><li>Candidates with interests in spine and cranial tumors can capture current outmigration</li><li>Functional candidates may build a functional practice to serve patients at the primary and affiliated hospital and will receive strong hospital support.
