This position is a Grade 3 hiring step 1, with an hourly rate of $19.67. No experience or training required, but experience in heavy manual labor is desirable.<br/><br/></div><div><strong>TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES</strong><strong>(illustrative only):</strong></div><ul><li>Clean vehicles and buildings.</li><li>Performs a variety of manual labor tasks subject to adverse weather conditions and after in an unpleasant environment.</li><li>Assists in the maintenance or construction of roads, streets, utility and drainage systems.</li><li>Operates power driven tools and equipment such as saws, compressors, drills, mixers, pumps, and mowers.</li><li>May operate trucks, automobiles, forklifts, and other motorized equipment.</li><li>Assists in operation of snow plow.</li><li>Uses hand tools such as shovels, scythes, forks, and rakes in road and grounds maintenance.</li><li>Loads and unloads trucks and stacks materials and supplies.</li><li>Acts as a flag person on highway jobs.</li><li>Assists in semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical, or painting operations.</li><li>Assists in repairing windows, doors, floors, walls, and other building structures.</li><li>Performs general clean-up work such as removing debris, raking leaves, cutting grass, shoveling snow, and assisting in collection of rubbish and litter.</li></ul><div><br/></div><div><strong>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</strong></div><ul><li>Willingness to perform arduous and routine manual work.</li><li>Ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.</li><li>Willingness to work under all weather conditions.</li><li>Mechanical aptitude.</li><li>Dependability.</li><li>Physical endurance.</li><li>Good physical condition.</li></ul><div><br/><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: </strong>None is required, but some experience in heavy manual labor is desirable.<br/><br/>Anyone interested in this position can file an application with the Jefferson<br/>County Human Resources Department at 175 Arsenal Street, Watertown, NY 13601.</div>
