Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions – Team Member Safety & OSHA/MIOSHA Compliance (including but not limited to)<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Conduct routine inspections of all facilities and outlets with applicable department managers to educate staff and ensure compliance with company safety standards and MIOSHA regulations.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Maintain and administer required safety programs including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), and Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) in accordance with MIOSHA standards.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Maintain and review employee incident reports; monitor trends and implement corrective actions to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Complete and post the OSHA 300 Log in compliance with recordkeeping standards; manage all associated OSHA reporting obligations.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Ensure mandatory MIOSHA notices and posters are properly displayed at all required workstations; coordinate corrective action on identified deficiencies in a timely manner.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Assist Human Resources with the planning, delivery, and review of all safety training programs, policies, and procedures.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Assist the corporate risk management team with workers’ compensation claims, including investigation support and return-to-work coordination.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Foster a caring safety culture throughout the resort with the goal of zero work-related injuries.</li></ul>Essential Job Functions – Guest Risk Management (including but not limited to)Note: On-mountain trail and ski/snowboard area safety is the responsibility of Ski Patrol. The Safety Manager coordinates with Ski Patrol leadership on matters that intersect with facility safety, guest incident documentation, and overall resort risk exposure.<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Oversee guest incident and accident investigation across all resort facilities, excluding on-mountain trail areas managed by Ski Patrol; ensure timely, thorough documentation and reporting.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Identify, assess, and mitigate guest safety hazards across resort buildings, parking areas, base lodges, rental and retail spaces, food & beverage outlets, recreational amenities, and other guest-facing areas.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Develop and enforce guest-facing hazard prevention programs including slip/trip/fall prevention, wet floor protocols, signage standards, and seasonal hazard management.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Ensure all guest safety signage, barriers, and area markings throughout resort facilities and grounds meet applicable standards and are maintained year-round.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Serve as the resort’s primary point of contact for general liability claims; coordinate with the corporate risk management team and legal counsel as required.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Assist the corporate risk management team with general liability claim investigation, evidence preservation, and incident documentation.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Coordinate with department leaders to conduct pre-season and ongoing safety walk-throughs of all guest-accessible areas; document findings and drive timely corrective action.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Maintain records of guest incidents and near-misses; analyze trends to proactively identify and address recurring risk areas.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Collaborate with V.P. of Mountain Experience on resort-wide risk management initiatives and capital safety improvements.</li></ul>Essential Job Functions – Resort Security<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Provide operational leadership and direction to the resort security team; establish standards for patrol coverage, post assignments, and shift operations across all seasons.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Develop and maintain resort security policies and procedures including access control, loss prevention, trespass enforcement, and after-hours security protocols.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Serve as the primary liaison between the resort and local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management agencies on security-related matters.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Manage and respond to security incidents including guest and team member conflicts, theft, trespass, disorderly conduct, and other situations requiring intervention; ensure timely documentation and escalation.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Oversee security coverage for special events, large-scale operations, and high-traffic periods; coordinate additional staffing or outside resources as needed.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Evaluate and maintain resort security infrastructure including cameras, access control systems, lighting, and communication equipment; identify capital improvement needs.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Develop and deliver security awareness training for department managers and team members, including de-escalation, emergency response, and situational awareness.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing private security, trespass, and use-of-force as they apply to resort operations.</li></ul>Essential Job Functions – Supervisory<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Provide direct oversight of the safety team; up to 10 or more team members depending on season.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Hire, supervise, and develop team members through guidance, training, coaching, and accountability.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Design and enforce safety standards; coordinate and document pre-shift safety talks, weekly meetings, and annual training programs.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Establish and evaluate performance goals for all direct reports; Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Associate degree or higher in Safety Management, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field, plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in safety, security, risk management, or emergency services; OR a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Demonstrated experience managing OSHA/MIOSHA compliance programs preferred.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Experience in a resort, hospitality, or high-traffic public environment preferred.</li></ul>Certificates, Licenses & Registrations<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Valid Driver’s License with ability to pass motor vehicle records check.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Current CPR/AED certification.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">First Aid certification, or higher.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Challenge OEC course required within one year of hire.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Safety certification preferred (STS, ASP, CSP, or equivalent through BCSP or similar credentialing body).</li></ul>Other Requirements<ul><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Proficient with computers including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional technology platforms.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English); ability to produce clear incident reports, policies, and safety documentation.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Passionate about safety, hospitality, and the outdoor/winter sports environment.</li><li style="margin:2pt 0in 2pt 27pt">Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight shifts, with hours varying by season.</li></ul>
