<h2>More information about this job</h2>Cajun Engineering Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented Instrumentation Engineer with a strong focus on specification, requisitioning, and technical evaluation of instrumentation equipment for industrial capital and maintenance projects.  This role is primarily responsible for developing high-quality instrument datasheets, specifications, and procurement packages, ensuring that all instrumentation is properly selected, technically compliant, and aligned with project and client requirements. The Instrumentation Engineer will work closely with project teams, vendors, and procurement to support efficient and accurate equipment purchasing and delivery.  Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: <ul><li>Apply Cajun and/or client engineering, design, and drafting standards in the development of instrumentation deliverables. </li></ul><ul><li>Become familiar with project scope, specifications, design basis, and client requirements upon assignment. </li></ul><ul><li>Identify, communicate, and help manage scope changes and design changes in a timely manner. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop preliminary designs, instrument indexes, material take-offs, and estimate-level deliverables appropriate to the phase of the project. </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare detailed design calculations, sketches, and supporting documentation for instrumentation systems and associated materials. </li></ul><ul><li>Ensure calculations and technical documents are organized clearly for efficient review, drafting support, and client deliverables when required. </li></ul><ul><li>Produce practical, cost-effective designs that emphasize constructability, maintainability, safety, and client satisfaction. </li></ul><ul><li>Review and check calculations prepared by others for technical accuracy, code compliance, and sound engineering practice. </li></ul><ul><li>Support designers and drafters by resolving routine layout, detailing, and installation issues and by providing clear sketches and direction for drawing development. </li></ul><ul><li>Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure timely exchange of information and integrated project execution. </li></ul><ul><li>Communicate design concerns, scope changes, and technical issues to the lead or senior engineer as they arise. </li></ul><ul><li>Assist in developing instrument packages, scopes of work, specifications, and supporting documents for procurement and subcontract inquiries. </li></ul><ul><li>Review vendor drawings and interdisciplinary documents for instrumentation requirements and integration. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop construction and installation specifications for instrumentation systems and equipment. </li></ul><ul><li>Perform field investigations to gather site data, verify existing conditions, support tie-ins, and provide construction support during execution. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop conceptual layouts, system approaches, and cost studies to support efficient and practical engineering solutions. </li></ul> Basic Qualifications: <ul><li>10+ years of experience in instrument engineering </li><li>Strong experience in instrument specification, datasheet development, and equipment requisitioning. </li></ul><ul><li>Proven ability to perform technical bid evaluations and vendor comparisons. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with a wide range of industrial instrumentation equipment and applications. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong understanding of instrument selection criteria based on process conditions and service requirements. </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to interpret and apply industry standards (ISA, API, NEC as applicable). </li></ul><ul><li>Experience working with vendors, suppliers, and procurement teams. </li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of how instrumentation interfaces with control systems (PLC/DCS). </li></ul><ul><li>Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools (for reviewing and supporting design deliverables). </li></ul><ul><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. </li></ul>  Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university is required.  Registration:  Professional Engineering registration is required.  Preferred Qualifications: Ability to work in a dual role in the electrical field is especially beneficial.

Skills for Success::
<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution in Engineering.</li><li>8+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or process improvement.</li></ul>Preferred Education and experience<ul><li>Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.</li><li>Experience in medical device, life sciences, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.</li><li>Formal Lean or Continuous Improvement certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt).</li><li>Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide or multi-site improvement initiatives.</li><li>Experience supporting automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.</li><li>Working knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, and GMP requirements as they relate to manufacturing processes.</li><li>Prior experience delivering quantified cost savings and productivity improvements.</li><li>Change management or project management certification (e.g., Prosci, PMP) is a plus.</li></ul><10% travel required
