The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the management and direction of the Surgery Department, Outpatient Surgery Department, and the Central Sterile Department. This includes responsibility for all aspects of personnel, materials, equipment, environmental control, education and orientation, assistance to surgeons, and all administrative duties. The Director of Surgical Services is accountable for all aspects of perioperative nursing care..Shift: First Shift; DaysRole Accountabilities:<ul><li>Manage complex interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships (e.g., with physicians, clinical department leaders, administrators, etc.) to assure collaboration and effective/efficient operations.</li><li>Evaluate staff performance on a continuous basis, providing guidance, education, and disciplinary action where required.</li><li>Demonstrate personal qualities of cooperation, teamwork, and support as a role model for the department.</li><li>Seek guidance from the Market Materials Management Surgical Services Coordinator and Director of Materials Management to assure the best price and the best return on investment for all equipment purchases and encourages proper conservation and utilization of equipment and supplies in the department.</li><li>Implement procedures that view the patient as the primary customer, guaranteeing basic rights, confidentiality, comfort, safety, educational opportunities, and personal dignity.</li><li>Plan for the future by establishing goals and objectives that are realistic, measurable, and time-based. This includes a plan for quality improvement. Engages staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems and processes; manages resources for staff participation in improvement work activities.</li><li>Assess, develop, and implement evidence-based and current standards for quality, safety, and cost-effective patient care related to wound healing services.</li></ul>Qualifications \u2013 External:<ul><li>Master's Degree and 3 years of experience; RN required</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>MSN preferred.</li><li>3+ years of Hospital Leadership experience preferred.</li><li>Extensive knowledge of the OR and Surgical Suite preferred.</li><li>Working knowledge of PACU strongly preferred.</li><li>A great understanding of Sterile processing preferred.</li><li>Knowledge of same-day surgery preferred.</li><li>Experience working closely with providers while navigating organizational dynamics and building strong relationships preferred.</li><li>A proven track record of managing complex projects and driving strategic initiatives to build hospital programs for departmental growth preferred.</li><li>Exceptional conflict resolution skills preferred.</li><li>Academic Medical Center experience preferred.</li></ul>#LI-JC1Our Nursing Philosophy:We believe highly skilled and specialized nursing care is essential to Vanderbilt University Medical Center's mission of quality in patient care, education and research.
