Job Summary 
Albany State University is seeking five Student Camp Counselors to support the ASU Science Sleuths Summer Camp, a Title III funded, two-week interdisciplinary day camp for rising 7th through 10th grade students. The camp uses forensic science as an entry point to broader applied and interdisciplinary learning across science, arts, criminal justice, and related fields. Student Counselors will work under the supervision of ASU faculty who also serve as program directors to assist with hands-on activities, mentor youth participants, and support daily program operations. This position provides undergraduate students with meaningful experiential learning in leadership, mentoring, STEM and interdisciplinary outreach, and community engagement. Training and ongoing support will be provided. The dates of this camp are from June 1, 2026 - June 12, 2026. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities 
Assist with preparation, facilitation, and cleanup of daily interdisciplinary learning activities. Support hands-on activities across forensic science, chemistry, biology, criminal justice, arts, and related fields. Supervise campers during activities, transitions, and meals to ensure a safe and supportive environment. Engage and mentor middle- and high-school students through age-appropriate communication and collaboration.Support faculty, consultants, and guest speakers during scheduled program sessions.Participate in required training related to working with minors, safety procedures, and program expectations.Assist with basic program documentation, daily check-ins, and post-program evaluation activities.Model professionalism, teamwork, and responsible conduct throughout the program.
Required Qualifications 
Current undergraduate or graduate student at Albany State University.Available for in-person work May 28¿June 12, including full participation during camp.Access to reliable transportation and/or campus housing during the program.
Preferred Qualifications 
Major or coursework in forensic science, chemistry, biology, criminal justice, or another science-related or creative discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences.Prior experience working with youth in camps, tutoring, mentoring, or outreach programs.Interest in interdisciplinary applied learning, STEM, arts, or criminal justice programming.Previous laboratory, creative, or hands-on learning experience.Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.
