Job Title: Lead Piping Designer OverviewA Lead Piping Designer will lead the design and modeling efforts for complex refinery projects for a diverse portfolio of refinery projects for a variety of clients.You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of design—from conceptual plot plans to final construction isometrics—ensuring all deliverables meet industry codes and project-specific standards. You will ensure full compliance with industry codes, client standards, and internal procedures. You will be responsible for developing standardized work processes and providing technical training to the team, including junior level designers.Candidates must demonstrate expert-level piping layout proficiency and a strong command of 3D CAD environments, specifically AutoCAD Plant 3D and Navisworks. Success in this role requires the ability to interface effectively with clients, engineers, and multi-disciplinary teams across both large-scale and small-cap projects Core Responsibilities· Design & Modeling Leadership: Lead the development of 3D models in AutoCAD Plant 3D for greenfield, brownfield, and revamp projects.· Oversee P&ID data consistency, manage ASME B31.3 specs and catalogs, and establish project-specific CAD procedures and drawing.· Manage the deliverables within scope, budget, and schedule. Incorporate project criteria into layouts to meet financial and schedule goals and participate in client meetings as needed.· Quality Assurance & Coordination: Lead the QA/QC process by reviewing P&IDs, plot plans, and calculations. Conduct interdisciplinary clash detection and lead professional client model reviews using Navisworks.· Mentorship & Team Development: Assign work to design staff and actively train, mentor, and develop junior team members in piping discipline fundamentals and Plant 3D workflows.· Field Support: Perform site walk-downs to verify as-built conditions and translate Required Qualifications· Experience: 15+ years in piping design for the refinery/petrochemical sector, with at least 5 years in a "Lead" capacity.· Travel: Ability to travel based on project needs.· Codes & Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of ASME B31.3 process piping and refinery layout best practices (e.g., equipment spacing, stress requirements, and maintenance access).· Communication: Proven ability to interface with Project Managers, Engineers, and Clients to resolve technical issues and maintain project schedules.

Join us in driving the science, technology and expertise that will serve the growing global demand for safe, reliable, clean energy.Collaborating with the Supervisor and/or Design Engineer, you will create and verify 3D and 2D CAD drawings for industrial equipment, focusing on rotating machinery and combustion technology. Your role includes generating models, reviewing drawings, and ensuring design integrity and cost efficiency. Strong communication with fabricators, vendors, and stakeholders is essential, along with adherence to standards like GD&T. Duties involve checking production drawings and using 3D scanning and measurement tools, with required travel to manufacturing or customer sites.<h3>Essential Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Collaborate with Parts and Auxiliary Design Engineers to transform sketches into functional assemblies.</li><li>Leverage a variety of CAD software tools (including Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Geomagic, VX Elements, and Creo) to prepare, modify, and refine drawings.</li><li>Utilize 3D scanning techniques for reverse engineering and produce detailed drawings using VX Elements, Inventor, and Geomagic.</li><li>Examine and update drawings and bills of materials to ensure compliance with industry codes and customer requirements, collaborating with drafting teams to keep projects on schedule.</li><li>Facilitate design reviews, perform tolerance analyses, and implement GD&T methodologies to enhance part functionality.</li><li>Design efficient layouts for optimal equipment placement and suggest appropriate materials and equipment selections.</li><li>Participate in meetings with customer's engineering consultants or relevant internal divisions to provide direct involvement.</li><li>Confirm that designs meet the Company's safety and quality standards.</li><li>Remain informed on standards, ISO procedures, and the latest advancements in CAD software.</li></ul>Requirements<h3>Mandatory Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Associate's degree or equivalent work experience. Technical Drafting or on the job training</li><li>2-5 years of experience designing machinery, one of a kind or prototype design preferred</li><li>Solid understanding of the following manufacturing technologies:  Fabrication, welding, machining, casting.  Cladding or Thermo spray methods a plus</li><li>Inventor, Geomagic, AutoCAD, Creo, or some combination </li><li>Must be organized and able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond quickly to requests</li><li>Must have a valid passport and be able to travel when required</li><li>Understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and material selection.</li><li>Sufficient understanding of GD&T principles and techniques</li><li>Must have a valid passport and be able to travel up to 25% domestically with occasional international travel to support project requirements such as field measurements or equipment layout/installation information. </li></ul><h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3><ul><li>5-10 years of machine design or equivalent experience </li><li>Knowledge of boiler, pulverizer, and/or combustion equipment.</li><li>Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills</li><li>Demonstrated excellent analytical and computer skills including proficiency in use of Word and Excel</li></ul>BenefitsTo provide greater transparency to candidates, we include base pay ranges for all US-based job postings that encompass all potential locations and levels for the open positions. Our base pay ranges are set based on the function, discipline, level and regional location and are benchmarked against companies in the same or similar industry. Final offers may vary based on multiple factors including education, depth and relevance of work experience, relevant licenses and certifications, and may vary from the amounts listed in the job posting. The pay range for this role will be $55,500.00 - $91,250.00
