Patient care assignment may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups Detailed responsibilities: MISCELLANEOUS - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned POLICY - Handles specimens/cultures according to policy and performs sponge, instrument and sharps counts according to policy TEAM WORK - In collaboration with the health team members in the preadmission, may participate in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients DUTIES - Able to perform suturing, preparation of surgical site, draping, retracting, hemostasis, dressing application, manual dexterity, knowledge of procedure, able to follow directions, and able to anticipate surgeon/procedure needs and able to operate stapling devices ASSIST - Assist OR team with meeting minimal turnover times - to include housekeeping duties, room set up, opening supplies for procedures and assisting RN as needed PARTICIPATION - Participate in SRMC initiatives such as lean SAFETY - Active participation in all safety measures i.e. Time Out PATIENT CARE - Works in collaboration with other health care providers to facilitate communication regarding the patient’s plan of care DUTIES - Performs duties of a perioperative surgical RN when not assigned into the FA role KNOWLEDGE - Has excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique specific to procedures PRECEPTOR - Precept and proctor First Assist students as necessary for organizational growth SAFETY - Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and/or corrective actions to ensure a safe environment for the patient and surgical team throughout the perioperative experience PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" Qualifications Education: Essential: Program Graduate Nonessential: Bachelor's Degree Education specialization: Essential: Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate Nonessential: Related Discipline Experience: Essential: 2 years directly related experience Nonessential: Credentials: Essential: Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 6 months Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days First Assist Certification RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM Physical Conditions: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.
