Position DescriptionThe Temporary Facilities Technician works in collaboration with the Facilities Manager and the facilities team to assist women and families experiencing homelessness, ensuring our buildings are safe and well maintained by identifying hazards, troubleshooting, and performing repairs. This role involves filling in the gaps at all locations for coverage and high priority repairs. Locations are throughout King County, including Seattle, Burien, and Bellevue. This temporary role has an hourly wage starting at $28/Hr. DOE. The schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, with flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. The hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The position beginsas soon as possible and is expected to end mid to late September 2025. This Temporary Facilities Technician position reports to the Facilities Manager and does not supervise other staff. Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Work in partnership with Mary's Place Facilities Manager and Site Directors to ensure optimal functioning of shelter systems including, but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general carpentry, custodial, locks and hardware, pest control, laundry facilities and security</li><li>Perform routine and preventative maintenance to building and systems, including plumbing, electrical, mattresses and bed frames, and all Mary's Place owned equipment (lawn care equipment, mechanical tools)</li><li>Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repairs</li><li>Report problems/issues to the Facilities Manager, recommends solutions and estimates</li><li>Assist volunteers providing maintenance services such as cleaning, painting, and landscaping</li><li>Supervise contractors and vendors as they relate to maintenance</li><li>Perform set up and take down of special events</li><li>Provide snow removal and landscaping as needed</li><li>Maintain a calm demeanor and model positive behavior</li><li>Communicate regularly with other staff members to ensure consistency</li><li>Attend staff meetings</li></ul>Requirements:Skills/Qualifications<ul><li>Work experience related to project management, vendor management, facilities and/or maintenance</li><li>Must have valid Washington driver's license, own reliable vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel to all organization locations on demand</li><li>Knowledge of plumbing and related repairs</li><li>Able to perform basic electrical work and determine when an electrician is needed</li><li>Must prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks</li><li>Self-motivated, possessing a high level of organization</li><li>Experience using standard power tools and non-powered tools</li><li>Education/experience in social services, social work, education, or related field desired</li><li>Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills</li><li>Proficient with Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications</li><li>Sensitivity to the needs of guests who are homeless, low-income, limited English speaking, or impacted by domestic violence, substance abuse or other barriers to employment</li><li>Commitment to diversity and an ability to work well with diverse family styles and populations</li><li>Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed</li><li>Applicants must provide proof of vaccination status </li><li>Willing to take a TB test within 30 days of hire </li></ul> Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.<ul><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.</li><li>The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, type, and reach with hands and arms; and requires the ability to occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry supplies up to 50 pounds.</li><li>Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of siting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required.</li><li>Travel to program sites and meetings outside the office and around the county are necessary.</li><li>Efforts like attention to detail, interacting with others in-person and through email, using critical thinking skills to strategize, develop and implement business plans, create and edit documents, listen and participate verbally at meetings.</li></ul> In compliance with the ADA Amendment Act, should you have a disability that requires assistance and/or reasonable accommodation with the job application process, please contact the Human Resources department. The employee will perform routine scientific work applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques but are also involved in the on-call Rapid Autopsy Program. Duties and Responsibilities Cell Culture, Basic Molecular Biology and Standard Histology Techniques 60%: The successful applicant will be proficient in: <ol><li>Techniques in cell culture.</li><li>The isolation, measurement and quality control of RNA/DNA for downstream molecular analysis.</li><li>Techniques such as: realtime PCR, western blot analysis, and ELISA.</li><li>Basic histology (fixing, decalcification, sectioning, and staining of tissue including immunohistochemistry).</li></ol> Collection and Documentation of Data 20%: <ol><li>Must be very attentive to detail and keep accurate records, in addition to research notes that provide sufficient detailed information for reproducing results or procedures by other individuals.</li><li>Collect, compile (e.g., entering data into Excel spreadsheet and generating graphs), and correlate data and recognize discrepancies in results.</li><li>Contribute data/findings for use in reports, documents or oral/written presentations.</li></ol> Participate in an on-call Rapid Autopsy team 10%: <ol><li>Rotate (every third week) as a member of a Rapid Autopsy team.</li><li>When on rotation, the Rapid Autopsy Program necessitates that the applicant be in the laboratory within two hours of being paged.
