Job Purpose: The Youth Leadership Coordinator will oversee the Nā Leo o Kamakaʻeha cohorts, working closely with the Youth Leadership Manager to establish a vision and strategy for the development of youth leadership programming, a newly launched initiative focused on individuals aged 16-26. Travel Requirements: In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka ` imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization.

<p>Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.</p><p>Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025.</p><h3>Job Purpose:</h3><p>The Youth Leadership Coordinator will oversee the Nā Leo o Kamakaʻeha cohorts, working closely with the Youth Leadership Manager to establish a vision and strategy for the development of youth leadership programming, a newly launched initiative focused on individuals aged 16-26. This position will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing high-quality, statewide programs that are responsive, accessible, and engaging for youth within this age range. The Coordinator will collaborate with statewide teams to create opportunities for youth engagement and leadership, ensuring youth representation in decision-making and program design and implementation. Additionally, the position will support the development of a peer mentor program that equips aspiring youth leaders with the skills and competencies needed to prepare them for future employment. Working with statewide Kīpuka, Lydia House, Liliʻuokalani Center, Early Childhood, and Liliʻuonamoku teammates, the coordinator will ensure that youth leadership programming is culturally resonant and aligned with Liliʻuokalani Trust’s mission and values. They will also engage in ongoing quality assurance and program evaluation efforts to ensure lasting impact.</p><h3>Key Responsibilities:</h3><ol><li>Collaborate with LT leadership to establish a statewide vision for youth leadership and peer mentor programming.</li><li>Design and implement creative and collaborative strategies to engage youth in leadership programming.</li><li>Develop leadership programs within a statewide framework, fostering connections to local communities while cultivating a sense of statewide belonging and influence.</li><li>Work with teammates to identify and cultivate relevant community partnerships that may provide opportunities for youth leadership.</li><li>Partner with LT teammates to implement impactful peer and adult mentorship programs, creating opportunities for participants to build lasting, positive relationships with youth and adult mentors in areas of professional and personal interest.</li><li>Through intentional program design and implementation, foster a sense of community, belonging, and social and emotional support for participants.</li><li>Stay attuned to current youth interests, challenges, and trends.</li><li>Create and maintain regular opportunities for youth leadership, voice, and empowerment by fostering the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and actions needed for youth to motivate, inform, and inspire others.</li><li>Collaborate with LT leadership to ensure that youth voices are included in the development of organizational programs, policies, and priorities, including budgeting and financial strategies.</li><li>Incorporate activities informed by youth culture, voice, and participants' cultural beliefs and practices into programs.</li><li>Model positive group management practices and foster healthy relationships and boundaries, ensuring emotional and physical safety for all program participants.</li><li>Provide opportunities for LT teammates to engage in and learn about emerging youth leadership practices.</li><li>Continuously seek out and apply best practices and evolving approaches in youth development and leadership.</li><li>Engage in community outreach to build and maintain relationships with a diverse array of organizations and individuals that further LT’s mission and goals.</li></ol><h3>Other Duties:</h3><ol><li>Provide transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff and beneficiaries to assigned destinations.</li><li>Participate in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development.</li><li>As appropriate, serve as a thought leader both internally and externally.</li><li>Evening and weekend hours required as needed.</li><li>Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organizational results.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ol><h3>Qualifications:</h3><ol><li>At least 5 years of relevant experience in and knowledge of planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of youth programming serving vulnerable populations.</li><li>BA in related field preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required.</li><li>Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract.</li><li>TB clearance.</li><li>Collaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge of community resources and services.</li><li>Ethical Practice: Model the highest level of ethical behavior, integrity, and social responsibility. Uphold and embody all LT values.</li><li>Communication: Clearly convey and receive information and ideas. Engage the listener and invite response and feedback. Demonstrate strong written, oral, and listening skills.</li><li>Cultural Competence: Respect and relate well to people from varied backgrounds and sensitive to group differences. Experience working with at-risk youth and ability to apply positive youth development principles to that work.</li><li>Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships.</li><li>Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and to remain calm and controlled when faced with challenging situations.</li></ol><h3>Travel Requirements:</h3><p>In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka ` imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization.
