4 of the wildest quitting stories we've ever heard

We don’t recommend you quit the way these people did, but these stories are pretty funny.

By Brooke Zambroski and Sarah Haberman

It’s inevitable. At some point in your life you’ll leave that job you love—or loathe—and move on to bigger and better things. Maybe it’s for a pay increase, maybe it’s time for a change, or maybe you downright hate your job. Whatever your reasoning, at some point you’ll likely announce your resignation.

How you do it, however, is up to you, and you’ll have to live with the potentially viral consequences. We wouldn’t necessarily recommend these approaches, but they sure do make for a good story.

Here are four employees who quit their jobs in epic fashion.

The coffee shop quartet

Musically inclined? You too can quit your job like Phil, who left his barista job by surprising his bosses with a barbershop quartet rendition of “I am quitting this job today.” Can we get a standing ovation?

The sweet resignation

On a more delicious note, you may choose to quit like Chris Holmes. In order to pursue his dream as a cake maker, and potentially gain a few customers, he baked his resignation.

The dance out

Marina Shifrin not-so-happily worked for a company that makes news videos. So, naturally, when she resigned over concerns about video quality, she made her own. Marina now has a job with Comedy Central—surprised?

The presidential approach

Last but not least: you may choose to quit like the biggest boss in the US: the President of the United States. Back in 1974, in just one sentence President Richard Nixon revolutionized the classic resignation letter. Some people like to get straight to the point.
