Guaranty Bank has a rich history covering more than 80 years; from its humble beginnings as a small savings and loan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the vibrant and continually growing financial services organization it has grown into with over 150 bank branch locations and a host of thriving nationwide mortgage subsidiary companies.
Guaranty Bank began operation in 1923 as a building and loan company that assisted individuals with purchasing a home. The company remained strong through the tough times of the depression, and in 1939 Guaranty's accounts were insured by the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC).
In 1970, Guaranty Savings and Loan branched into the banking business by opening it's first bank location. By 1979, Guaranty had nine branches in Southeastern Wisconsin.
In 1980, Guaranty Bank expanded its mortgage business and made the decision to split the origination of mortgage loans apart from the branch banking business. Guaranty Bank was the first bank in the Southeastern Wisconsin area to operate in this manner. Between 1983 and 1995, Guaranty Bank formed Shelter Mortgage, a retail mortgage subsidiary.
In 1996, Guaranty Bank began a wide spread expansion of the retail banking business into supermarket chains throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Georgia. Operating as BestBank in Michigan and Georgia and Guaranty Bank in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, Guaranty Bank/BestBank is now one of the top ten supermarket banks in the country.
Today, the Guaranty Bank Family of Companies is a flourishing organization that employs over 2,000 people in 43 states. In spite of the company's growth over the years, the company has maintained its customer service focus and preserved its family oriented employee culture. In November of 2003, Milwaukee Magazine voted Guaranty Bank as one of the best places to work for women.
