Job Title: Accountant

Job Description

The Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and assisting with internal and external reporting. This position handles core accounting activities such as general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries, while ensuring compliance with applicable statutes, policies, and financial regulations. The role offers the opportunity to grow into a sr. leadership position in accounting over time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, including general ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.

  • Perform accurate data entry and maintain complete documentation of all transactions in accordance with recordkeeping policies.

  • Support month-end and year-end closeout processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of required tasks.

  • Prepare and submit journal entries with proper documentation and appropriate approvals.

  • Review and verify the accuracy of invoices, purchase orders, and other accounting documents before processing.

  • Assist in preparing financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders, including materials needed for audits.

  • Respond to inquiries from internal departments, vendors, and the public regarding financial matters in a professional and timely manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and ensure compliance with applicable statutes, organizational policies, and financial regulations.

  • Support audit preparations by providing requested documentation, reconciliations, and reports.

  • Exhibit keen attention to detail and a high level of professionalism in all interactions and work products.

  • Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned to support the needs of the department.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field.

  • 1-2 years of experience in accounting; governmental accounting experience is a plus.

  • General ledger accounting experience, including journal entry preparation and review.

  • Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

  • Experience supporting month-end and year-end closeout activities.

  • Ability to perform bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations accurately.

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles; knowledge of GAAP is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Accurate keyboarding and data entry skills.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while concentrating on repetitious or complex tasks.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to work in a typical office environment and to support extended hours during audits or fiscal year closeouts when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Governmental accounting experience is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills or potential to take on leadership responsibilities are a plus.

  • Desire to obtain a master's degree in accounting is preferred.

  • CPA license is preferred, or a strong desire to obtain CPA certification.

  • Experience preparing documentation and reports for audits.

  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries from departments, vendors, and the public.

  • Strong professionalism and discretion in handling confidential financial information.

  • Interest in long-term career growth, with potential to move into a Director of Accounting role in the future.

Work Environment

This position is based in a typical office environment. Initial training occurs fully in-office, with the possibility of transitioning to a hybrid work arrangement for the right candidate once onboarding is successfully completed. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours during audits or fiscal year closeouts. The role involves working in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions, performing computer-based tasks for extended periods, and collaborating closely with a team of accounting and finance professionals in a professional office atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yeehaw, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr.
