Job Summary:

The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher to support the educational and developmental needs of students with disabilities. The paraprofessional assists with implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), provides instructional support, and helps create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: Assist the special education teacher in delivering instruction to students with disabilities, either one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Classroom Management: Help maintain a positive and organized classroom environment, manage student behavior, and implement classroom rules and procedures.
  • IEP Implementation: Support the implementation of students'' individualized education programs (IEPs) by assisting with accommodations, modifications, and specialized instructional strategies.
  • Data Collection: Collect and record data on student progress, behavior, and performance as directed by the special education teacher.
  • Personal Care Assistance: Provide personal care and support to students with physical or mobility needs.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with teachers, students, parents, and other school staff to support student learning and address any concerns.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the special education team, including teachers, therapists, and other paraprofessionals, to support student goals and objectives.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate''s degree or higher preferred. May require paraprofessional certification.
  • Experience: Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities, is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and assisting students with physical needs.
